Hi everyone, I am new to this forum and already find it wonderful!

I am a breeder and trying to learn more about the genetics. I have a lionhead kit that is called a gnome. It is eveidentlly a new color that only one or two other people have been able to produce. I would love to say I produced this with careful, thought out breeding but it was pure accident. LOL But I would like to know if anyone knows of a place on the net that I can find an easy to understand list of the genetic codes. I have seen them before and found a really simple one but broke my laptop and cant find it again.

Thanks in advance!

I could only find one site that has a reference to the "gnome" color. The genotype is listed as Aa (agouti) BB (full color) chm (medium chin) chl (light chin aka shaded) dd (dilute = blue) Es (steel) e (recessive non-extension)

This would bea genotype for blue steel.

I got the genotype from this site http://www.welshrabbitry.com/lionhead.php

It also lists the pedigree for a "gnome" pictured on the site.

However, the pedigree listed is not possible. It lists the agouti "gnome" as being produced by selfs (tort x blue). This is not possible.

Personally, I've never heard of a "gnome". It sounds like a breeder is just making up a name for an already recognized variety. It's hard to tell from the photo, but it looks more like a self chin. In fact, the more I look through the site, the more errors I'm finding in the genotypes. The other "gnomes" also appear to be variations of dilute self chins or shadeds which may show the "faux" ticking that she's mistaking for steel coloration. I've seen this error in identification many times in wooled breeds.

That's really interesting Pam, that website is one of the ones on my favourites list so I'm glad you researched and pointed out that they have some wrong information on their page. Even I know you can't get an 'A' from two 'aa' parents, gosh.

Grammy, must be a pretty bunny though :D.
