I have decided that after I get her spayed, Iwant to find a friend for my bun Velma. My only trouble isthat I am having some trouble locating a breeder in my area.I have been searching online, but haven't been able to find many sitesin my searches that have looked promising. This is the firsttime I have planned on contacting a breeder (Velma was a gift from myboyfriend and came from our local pet store) and I'm not sure where toreally start. I would greatly appreciate any help orinformation. :D

Is there a reason why this new bunny has to be from a breeder?

In my experience, some of the cutest and friendliest rabbits are thosesitting in a shelter waiting for a home. My Mr. Tumnus (who ispurebread lionhead) was a rescue. Also, the good thing aboutrescues is that they usually let you bring your rabbit in to meet otherbunnies. Some rabbit rescues will even help you with the bonding.

Oh, and theyre also almost always fixed, which saves you the time and money of doing that yourself!

Petfinder shows lots of bunnies in your generalarea!http://search.petfinder.com/search/search.cgi

Look at this little male lionhead from CAHS in Hilliard:

Anyway, if you want to get a bun that is more likely to bond withVelma, it's best to get one that's already spayed/neutered and that youcan introduce her to beforehand. Some rabbits like all otherrabbits, some are very picky and will fight with the ones they don'tlike. Rabbits can "fall in love" on sight, learn to love eachother during bonding, or nurture a deep and lasting hate for the otherto the point where it's very dangerous to even try to bond them (I havea bun like that).

Plus, many popular breeds are easily found in shelters. I'veseen some gorgeous purebreds on Petfinder and in my local HumaneSociety. Not that breeders are inherently bad, but since babybunnies usually like everybody you won't know how they'll actually getalong for months, then you'll have go get him neutered and wait for thehormones to subside, then you can start bonding them. With no good clues as to whether they'll get along permanently or notbecause puberty changes everything.

Before you start looking for a second bun, read up on bonding abit. Make sure you'll be able to keep both rabbits separatepermanently just in case things don't work out. There's lotsof info in Bunny 101:

And this is my favorite bonding site:

OMG, Naturstee, he is so incredibly gorgeous! I waaaaant! Love the bunny, love the bunny, love the bunny........

The only reason I considered going the breederroute is because I thought it would be the easiest way to locateparticular breeds of rabbits. I had no idea about some ofthose sites that you guys mentioned. I am already in lovewith the lionhead in Hilliard. :)

Isnt hea doll?!

Im sure there are some good breeders in your area, so feel free to lookaround. I just thought I'd let you know what your options are. Itsalways nice when bonding to get a rabbit who's already full grown andaltered. It takes the guess work out of it if you can see how they getalong before you bring him home.

Let us know what you decide!

Right now I've been searching around thepetfinder site and I'm falling in love every other minute. There are so many adorable buns out there. The only problemI've encountered so far happens when I look at some of the requirementsfor adopting. Some of the places require house inspectionswhich isn't a problem for me because I see my home as suitable for anew bun, but some of the places are over an hour away and I'm not surethey would travel that far. I'm just not finding shelters anycloser than that, that handle rabbits. I have no problemtraveling, but I'm not sure they would be. :?

It dosn't hut to call and ask them aboutit. I'm sure they'd much rather have one of their bunniesplaced in a good home.

I'm not exactly sure where Athens, Oh Is. Is itAnywhere NEar MEdina? I will be in MEdina in the begining ofNovember. I live about 30 minutes north of Pittsburgh. Wow, those are really pretty, Jak. I think it'ssafe to assume they are not on the ARBA's list of show rabbits, though. Are you the only breeder that has them, besides in New Zealand? I thinkit would be really cool to get them on the show table. I'm gonna sendyou a pm.
