Hi guys. A few days ago I took my rabbit in the garden at night time. There were mosquitos. My vet said that most likey this is not myxomatosis which was my main concern but he is confused as to what has happened to his eye. Im currently washing his eye with saline solution and applying an ointment called kenacomb its like hydrocortisone but less harsh. He keeps scratching it and makes it more red. And he also scratches the back and side of his ear. His ear looks clean from inside. The vet also cut some hair off his eyelid so the ointment could apply better. Anyone else bunny go through this? Please help im really worried as hes stopped eating his leafy greens and is only interested in fruits and has become super weak too :( thank God hes still active at night and a lil in the day thats why I have hope he can get better

That's not myxomatosis. Myxo causes extreme swelling of the face and around the eyes. It will also cause secondary internal problems like pneumonia.

Medirabbit: myxomatosis in rabbits

All I'm seeing in the photo is wet fur and the bald spot around the eye. What made you think there was a problem originally? What was wrong with the eye or skin around the eye before you started clipping fur or putting anything on the skin?

Thanks for your response!
It started with his eyelid being red and it looked like something bit his eyelid and along with that the side of his ear became red he keeps itching the bad of his ear too. I’ve attached pics of when I first saw the mark. Also can this be a sing of ear mites? His ear look clean from inside tho. Ive stopped his ointment as I feel it was burning and he was itching more. I feel like the eye is healing almost healed but what about the ear? Can this be an internal infection? My vet told me to give him antibiotic syrup I read that you should be careful giving antibiotics to rabbits so I waited for a bit but now im thinking to give it to him what do you think?
