I have 2 mini lop buns. They are a brother/sister pair. Buster has been neutered but I have not been able to get Babs spayed yet because I couldn't find a vet around the area to do it. At 1 am this morning there was a terrible rucous going on in the bunny area. Babs was chasing Buster around the cage and attacking him. She pulled a lot of his fur out. I came into the room and calmed both of them down but as soon as I left she started again. I had to separate them and poor Buster seemed to be scared to death. His ears don't flop over yet but they sure were flopped last night. He also kept thumping the cage floor. He's not hurt, I checked him out thoroughly. You can't even see where the fur is missing. I feel so bad for him....but what the heck is wrong with her??? She has never been aggressive before. I would say she is about 4-5 months old.

In a word, hormones! Bunnies can be very territorial and hormones play a big role in that. At her age, they are just kicking in. Spay and neuter will help!

Spaying would totally help. Poor Buster! LOL I guess he knows not to mess with the girls, huh? LOL! But good thing you seperated them. I just have one question, the vet who neutered Buster can't spay Babs?

The one that did Buster has never spayed a female bun and said there are too many risks with a female he doesn't feel comfortable with it. Its more complicated with a female. Most vets in my area won't do a female.

That's too bad because of the high risk of ovarian tumors in unspayed rabbits. It's more of a health concern for rabbits to be spayed, although it will also help with behavior.

Did you check our list of rabbit savvy vets for one in your area?

aashly23 - I have the same problem in our part of SC. If you are able, it would be worth the driving time and money to find a vetexperienced with rabbits. I lost my sweet 8-month old agouti, Nita, when I took her in to be spayed. The vet felt they would be "okay" with performing the surgery, even though it wasn't something they usually handled. I felt uneasy leaving Nita there, but thought it would be alright - wish I had followed my gut reaction.

My dutchies are brother and sister too, and we went through the same thing- your bunswill settle down after the hormones have been taken care of - Promise!

Southernbuns...I found a vet that is experienced with spaying. They are about an hour away from me but I don't want to take any chances....she attacked again last night about 3 minutes into play time.

I understand that spaying rabbits can be scary, and obviously you need to make your on decision, but I feel like many many rabbit owners do it. My female is spayed, and I feel like most of the purely pet rabbits on this site are spayed. I'm sure someone could recommend a good vet. Also, you should check with the closest humane society. I'm sure they have people who do their bunnies or could give you the number of a good vet.

From what I've heard is that its sometimes harder to bond unaltered rabbits.

I fully intend to have her spayed. As I said before I found a vet that is experienced with females. He is an hour away but I don't want to take any chances by going somewhere close that is unexperienced.
