Dig Box Inquiries

I've got two buns and my rather rambunctious one has a habit of kicking all of her litter out of her litter box while I'm at work. Now my calm boy is starting to do the same.

I've thought that maybe they just wanted the litter box in a new spot and have tried moving it to the place they've left it (sans litter). But it hasn't changed a thing.

Most people suggest a dig box to distract them from the bad habit. But they always use the dig box as a litter box, so I end up throwing it away.

Any suggestions as to how to separate dig box from litter box? Any photos or descriptions of your successful dig boxes would be appreciated!

Sophie does the same thing and it was driving me mad. I got a rabbit resting bord off ebay that is made to go in the bottom of wire cages to give a smooth place for feet. I just put the resting bord on top of the litter and that has kept her from digging it all out.

To give her a place to dig I use a 10 gallon aquarium next to the litter box with clean dirt. She loves to dig in there but doesn't pee in it.

Restricting the dig box material to paper might help. If it does, you could try to transition back to something heavier at some point.

Thank you, @LakeCondo! I might try lining a box with magazine paper since they LOVE to chew on that!

Sorry, but no magazine or any other glossy paper. It has a slight coating of plastic. Newspaper or plain office paper is ok, but I use brown packaging paper. Honey loves to start with a sheet several feet square. It's a tent before she starts ripping it up.

@LakeCondo Wouldn't the ink on the newspaper be bad as well?

It used to be, but now it's made with soybeans, so is ok. I'm glad newspapers switched from petrochemicals some years ago.
