For a while, I've known Ripley doesn't wake up easily when he's sleeping. He's only two years old, but I know something isn't quite right with his hearing. For a while I thought maybe I was crazy and when he sleeps, he's just in a deep sleep.
Now though, more and more lately, I've been startling him when I come into the room. I've tried clapping, screaming etc. and he is totally oblivious. I think there may be some heading, as he's hold his ears out occasionally like he's listening to something.
He does have a history of chronic respiratory disease (always has had a wet nose but just clear discharge). Also, he recently was treated for an ear infection but the vet said everything looked great inside; drops were given just because I saw excessive scratching. I still wonder if his ears have an oder but I may be imagining that too.

Does anyone have experience with buns hard of hearing? I'm trying to make a concerted effort now to enter the room and show him I'm there, approaching in a way he can see me etc. but I feel so bad for the lil' man.

---is it safe to say ripley has been/seen an exotic specialist.??--an examination head to toe is in order, and a nasal culture test-(about $100.00-?-)--he may simply have some disabilities that need care for,,i trust everything will work out good but I too am caregiver with disabled bunz--though their hearing is not impaired--we are first line responders,--sincerely james waller---:bunnyheart:hearts:bunny17:

Oh yes, lol Ripley has seen his rabbit savvy vet countless timest this year (ok, problably has been there like 4 or 5 times; not countless). He did have blood run which came back beautifully perfect. I'm sure he's fine, I don't mind if he can't hear that well. I'm just curious if anyone else has had bunnies that were deaf. I'm sure a nasal swab wouldn't be a bad idea; maybe eventually we'll look into it. It may have something to do with allergies as well.

It's funny that you mentioned this subject. I was wondering the same thing about 2 of mine. I'm thinking it's the floppy ears preventing proper bunny hearing because my freckles has no problem and I never startle him. His ears are carried normally. I try to announce myself for Humma and Faith but I startle them alot. I don't mean to. So I'm thinking there might be nothing wrong with Ripley either. It may just be a lop eared bunny thing? I'm curious to hear what other lop bunny slaves have to say. :bunnybutt:

If it wouldn't scare any other animals you have you could try stepping a little hard (stomping) he may hear it if not he may at least feel it through the floor.
