Not that I'm on my way, or even dreaming about making a new variety or anything, but I was looking through the latest Domestic Rabbits mag and saw the list of exhibit presentations for this year's convention. How do they end up making the new varieties? Is it by breeding the current varieties and crossing different genetics or do they add a different breed into the mixture and linebreed back down to the original breed's standard? Or something else? Or does each breeder/breed do it differently?

It all depends on the breed and variety your working on.Some breeds already have the colors that can create a unrecognized variety and some breeds do not. Like in Mini Rex they are working on Sable and Smoke Pearl they already had colors that they could develop these colors with where as Dwarf Hotots they are working on Blue Banded they had to use hybridization to bring these colors in.
