Right now, I'm feeding my General two small pieces of carrot twice a week, in addition to his pellets and hay. He's about 4 months old, I think. They told me he was about 7 weeks old when I got him at the end of July...
I believe he weighs about 3-4 pounds. My scale isn't really accurate, haha. I was told he is a Lionhead, but I think he's a Lionhead/mini lop cross. Adorable little boy, though. :blushan:

So today, I heard that feeding carrots isn't healthy, because of the sugar content...is this true? And if so, should I knock down his carrot to a small treat? I give him a little bit of apple for treats, and very rarely banana. Are there any other things I should know about feeding these?

He'll be started on greens soon, and I'm planning on making a mix that I can just dish out to him every day, like a mini salad. Does anyone else do this? I want to vary his diet as much as my budget allows, as it's boring to eat the same thing every day.

Thanks! :)

Carrots are fine if given once in a while and it doesn't seem that you are give your bun too many. Fruits like grapes and bananas have a lot of sugar and they have to be given sparingly. Carrot tops are the best for your bunny.

We've recently started giving "Spring Mix" and the bunnies are taking to it nicely. It sounds like you'll have an easy time introducing greens if he has already taken a liking to carrots, apples, and bananas (ours refused all of these).

So you just buy the bag of spring mix? That sounds like a good plan. :) For mixing it up, though, could I give some of that every day, and then on some days, reduce the amount of spring mix and feed other veggies? I've heard they like things like green pepper, and pea pods. Or could I give him some of his fruits on these days?

Also, how much veggies should a 2-4 pound bunny be getting? Especially as he's being introduced to him.

..ALSO, is it okay to give frozen fruits/veggies while they're still thawing? I thought it might make a nice treat on a hot day, but I don't want his teeth hurting or anything. Right now I have a couple strawberries thawing in the fridge for tomorrow.

Wow, I'm asking alot of questions. :p

Yes, we buy the bag of Spring Mix from the grocery store (they seem to like any brand, just as long as it's the spring mix). The only reason I don't mix it with other fruits or vegetables is because Billy and Ronnie have rejected every other fruit or vegetable I've given them! But if yours likes other fruits and veggies, you could always toss these in with the greens to make a nice little salad.

I'm not sure on quantities (mostly because I've just started to introduce greens myself). All I know is to introduce new foods slowly and increase over time so as not to upset their digestion.

Spring mix is great--it is usually well tolerated. I would start very slowly, maybe a 1/4c a day at first. My adult nethies (2-3lb) get 1c fresh veggies a day each, and my adult dutch and holland lop (4-5lb) each get 2c fresh veggies a day. Some people don't feed a ton of veggies, but my guys like them so much, plus it's a good way to get some extra water into their diet along with vitamins and minerals. I would wait to be sure he tolerates the spring mix well before moving on to other veggies. My guys do like peppers, broccoli, cucumbers, all types of lettuce (except iceberg), parsley, kale, collards, etc etc. Just start off any new thing slowly. I personally don't feed snow peas, because they're so expensive, and they're also a bit sugary to be a staple food.

So, I went out to the grocery store to get Spring Mix...and they didn't have it! Not in any brand. I was pretty surprised, since that's what my mom buys for us to eat, usually. They didn't even have a spot for it!
What I picked up was "field greens", while I was looking at it I didn't see anything bad for him in there. He's currently eating up his 1/4 of a cup, and he loves it! c:

The spring greens are loved by all. I can get a huge tub of it at Sam's Club.
