I have two bunnies, a mini lop, and a lionhead...we've had one of them for 3 years, the second, almost a year. We recently raised chicks that are now 10 weeks old and have been moved outside to a coop/enclosed run, complete with a top as protection from predators. The coop will also be heated in the winter, and has shavings on the fllor, which we rake out regularly. I was hoping I could move my bunnies outside to this area. Figured they could run more, and also it would eliminate some of the stink and mess from my house. Indoors, my rabbits are caged, and they do have a litterbox, which we fill with rabbit litter, but even with daily changing, it stinks. Plus, our mini lop likes to dig in the litterbox, and it sends rabbit poop flying all over the place. Ewww! I was hoping moving them outside could be an option.

Bad, bad, bad idea.

Having a rabbit live with chickens is just asking for problems. Pecking, scratching, possible biting from the rabbits... You're just asking for injuries.

What sort of litter are you using? Because really, a day of rabbit waste is not that smelly unless your bunny does not use the litter box or you're just not using the right litter.

We are using a rabbit litter that we buy at the pet store. We also occasionally use Yesterday's News or Feline Pine when we have to buy it at the grocery store. And again, the digging in the box, which send rabbit poop flying, makes quite a mess...My rabbits are sweet tempered, and have never scratched or bitten anyone.

I would like to welcome you to Rabbits Online, my name is Dave and I am a moderator on the forum. So if I can be of any help please let me know. This is a terrific website for rabbits and their slaves, not only is it very active but also friendly. I am so glad you’re here and I know you will enjoy it.

I would not house rabbits and chickens together. The chickens could peck the bunny's eyes out and severly injury the rabbits.

I use a wood pelleted litter, kiln dried, means no toxin pine oils left in it. I got a extra high sided litter box for one of my bunny's that kicked litter out.

Many bunnies’ recommend their slaves to this site so we may learn of others methods to keeping our furry masters happy.

If you everhave a sick bunny, please post in The Infirmary and include your rabbit's age, breed and health history as well diet and output details leading up to the problem.
