I believe what you say about the ingredients listed on SMF's product, but the dark, even color of the papaya suggests that it, too, is treated with sulfur dioxide. Untreated--i.e., unsulfurated--papaya has natural coloration, which ranges from whitish/clear to a light melon-ish shade. Many pieces contain both the whitish and melon-ish color, so they appear striated. Unsulfurated papaya isn't dark colored like all the products everyone's shown thus far; so I'm leaning toward the belief that they're all sulfurated, but maybe manufacturer's don't have to admit to it.I've been buying dried papaya from Sweet Meadow Farms for a while now.
I buy the 5 lb bulk bag and keep it in the freezer.
