Im just wondering if anybody has had a baby while owning a rabbit ?

I am pregnant and Due at the end of November , I am concerned about the rabbits and my babies health .

We own quiet a small home and its full no room for much , the rabbits are in my room and that is oging to be the babies room aswell the rabbits do smell and kick there shavings all over the place and are dusty because of the shaving dust and their hair.

We dont have room for them else where in the house right now we are trying to make room for a baby with 2 other dogs, cat and 2 other adults its hard .

We have thought about using towels, blankets as bedding but they smell is unacceptable my mother says as my male bunny isn't neautered he likes to spray and isn't great at using a litter box but were working on it and working on getting him neautered aswell .

We were thinking of keeping them outside in a hutch as we havea large one how well do bunnies do outside in the winter ?

I think you'll find that once he's neutered you won't have a problem. It will take a month or two for the hormones to settle though, so best to get it done sooner than later.

Rabbits are definitely one of the best pets to have in terms of not spreading germs/diseases, they don't carry anything and they're total herbivores so their output is just plant matter.

If you neuter the male and try a less dusty litter, I think it will be quite workable.

What breed are they? GP has pretty harsh winters. If they're larger bunnies and they have the right enclosed wooden hutch maybe situated against the house with a LOT of straw and other bedding, a run with a ramp so they can get enough exercise, and a lot of protection from the neighbourhood dogs, cats, hawks and other wildlife that will be trying to eat them (ie: a very strong and deep fence around them), it might work.

MyBabyBunnies lives in Edmonton and had her crew outdoors, you may want to drop her a PM if you really want to consider that route.

They are lops not sure what kind they are a larger lop . I am not thrilled at the thought of keeping them outside :( but my mother does not want them around the baby .

Im going to call the vet tommorow and see if there is a payment plan we can work out if they do that here lol .

As for outside I wouldn't be worried about critters getting to them I have a bulldog and a pitbull they dont let anything in the yard and the hutch we have is pretty safe and big and I also have a shed thats empty that I can keep the hutch inside . Is there anything possible to keep the waterbottles from freezing thats my main concern

I'm going to go out on a limb here - please do not get mad - but it is not your mother's decision if your rabbit is around the baby - it is yours. If you feel neutering the rabbit and changing the litter make the room safe for your baby I do not see why your mother should have anything to say about it.

No matter what you decide, make sure it is YOUR decision, not your mother's. Please just consider your baby's health and the health of the rabbit, not what other people may think.

Unless you are under 18 - then your mother does have a say.:D

Hi, there really is no danger to the baby. I have two kids and my younger son has a chronic illness and his immune system is compromised and he is perfectly fine with our three bunnies. Actually when he was just a baby and was very sick we had to stay at the hospital for three months and we were allowed to keep a pet bunny in our room (yes, I know its hard to believe but I asked and they said yes). We even had nurses bring other children to our room to pet the bunny.
If possible it might be better for the bunnies to live in a room other then the bedroom, sometimes people can become allergenic to the hay or shavings. I use shredded paper in my bunnies cage and there is less dust then from the wood shavings.

What kind of cage do you have? Do you have a pic? I might have a good idea to get rid of the dust and bedding :)
