Ok so I have a not so little baby called Baby, and I'm toying with a massive decision.
Baby is 13 years old, and has a benign rumour on her lady parts.
It's been slowly growing for a little over one and a half years now and is very big.
She goes to the vets every 6 months for check ups ,and had advice not to put her through a operation due to her age.
She is on Metacam for pain ,and every few months has to have antibiotics due to infection reoccurring on the tumour.
Not to mention the relentless baths as she can't clean her back end properly at all.
So here is my dilemma.
In baby's mind she wants to run,eat and basically be a baby bunny. I know this because I know baby. Her mind is just completely normal. However her body is just another story.
She is becoming so unsteady on her back legs now and it's obviously because of her ever growing tumour.
I have her living in my bedroom with me now so that I can pick her up when I hear she has fell over and can't get up (I sometimes have sleepless nights due to this).
I would really love for the Tumour to be taken away and have more time with her.
I know she is very old and is probably not fair, but I hate seeing her unable to live properly.
Just as I write now she is bombing it round the bedroom. But I know her legs will get tired soon, and the tumour too much and will collapse.
I will pick her up,and she will grunt and try and run because she comes across as frustrated.
She is the most sweet and loving rabbit I have ever owned (and I own and have owned so many bunnies).
She has never bitten, loves rich tea biscuits and gives me so many View attachment ImageUploadedByRabbit Forum1489317018.813837.jpgkisses and affection.
I want her last few days/weeks/months/years to be as happy and comfortable as they can for her.
So if any of you could offer me some advice on what to do, that would be very appreciated:)

Lots of love Rose & Baby x

None of us know Baby like you do. It is the HARDEST decision a person will make about a pet, but you will know if/when it is time to let her go. If euthanasia is something you are considering, know it is a very kind and humane way to go (who doesn't want to die in his/her sleep?). I personally have a goal of euthanizing all of my pets (rather than letting them die on their own) as it is so humane and wonderfully kind. you are taking their pain and putting it on your shoulders. If she is truly unhappy, you will know.

I am so sorry you have to go through this and mine and my pets' thoughts and love are with you!

If the tumor is causing great difficulties for her at this point and affecting her quality of life, I think I would risk surgery. There's a chance she will do just fine with it and this could give her another comfortable few years with you. But I know with our old buns it is a balancing act though, between their health issues and the risks that can sometimes come with treatment.

Ultimately we can only give you an opinion of what we 'might' do in a similar situation. You know your bun best and know the situation best, so only you can really know what will be the right thing to do in the end.

I'm not sure what your location is, but if you are in the UK, there are some really excellent rabbit specialists there. But where ever you are, if you decide on surgery I would definitely go with the best rabbit specialist possible, as this will give your bun the greatest chance of coming through the anesthesia safely.

Best of wishes for you and your bun. And whatever you decide, I hope you both have lots more quality time together.

Poor Baby, I'm so sorry you have to go through this. She is obviously a very sweet bunny. I agree with JBun, I think that surgery would be worth it, however you know Baby best, and you know what's right for your bunny. Good luck, and give Baby a pat from me.
