Hey all,
I have had Bentley for about three weeks now. He pretty much litter trained himself (or so I thought!) The cage he is in is a long wire cage, with about a half inch of newspaper covering the bottom wire, so he's standing on a flat, smooth surface. Eventually, I would like to put a mat down so his cage is lined with a more comfy surface, but he newspaper he's on right now provides enough cushioning. Originally, he had a corner litterbox, which worked great. (Sidenote: He's currently on leftover carefresh as litter, but he will soon switch over to Yesterday's News (which is what my other bun uses).)
I personally hate the corner boxes. IMO they're too small and just not as easy to maintain, and Bentley had started going directly to the side of the litterbox. So, yesterday, I switched over to a rubbermaid bin, low enough for him to hop over, but tall enough for him to keep his mess inside and so he won't be able to go over the box.
However, he has now identified the new box with the comfy carefresh as his bed, and the free space where his bed USED to be, his litterbox. I've been religiously taking the soiled newspaper, and putting it in his box, *hoping* that he'll get the point. Unfortunately he hasn't and I'm running out of ideas. Has anyone ever had a bun "un"-litter train themselves? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
If pictures would help, I'll be more then happy to post them!
