Been away for 3 weeks, now my little guy is hiding from me

I went up to visit my parents and left my rabbit with my sister and her family. I was away for three weeks and my sister’s kids bonded with Dortmund.

anyway I just got back and went to pick the little guy up. He hid from me at my sisters house, and as soon as he got to myplace he hid from me there too. Now he is in his hidy hole and hasn’t come out for hours.

The best I can figure is that I pet him at least once a day (and most of the time a hell of a lot more) for the last 3 years and then I suddenly disappeared. As a prey animal, I probably figured I was eaten by an owl or weasle and got over my disappearence. But not that I am back he has no idea what is foing on and he is scared of me.

but I could be wrong. Has this happened to anyone else. How long will it take before he recognizes me again?

Rabbits have little brains and can forget after even just a few days. Sit and spend time with your bun to allow him to bond with you again. How long it takes is different with each rabbit.
