hi again everyone , after the loss of my rabbit i am finding it hard to find any of the same breed in my area, and am thinking of breeding holland lops to start with if and when i find a good doe, i am from the uk and was wondering how do you know a rabbit is a pedigree,
I am also thinking of making hutchs as a business and was wondering if any one in uk has any ideas

You will know it's pedigree when it has a pedigree.

A pedigree rabbit should come with 'papers', and it will look something like a sheet of paper with the rabbits name on the top, the rabbitry in which it was bred and a list of all it's parents, grandparents, great grandparents etc etc.

For example, you may buy a pedigree rabbit from "Misty Woods" who's name is "Debby". So on the papers it would say something like:

Misty Woods 'Debby', broken sooty fawn. 3 litter mates: 1 black buck, two sooty fawn does.

Dame: Misty Woods 'Blues Baby', blue.
Sire: Hollyhocks 'Shamrock', broken sooty fawn

...and so forth. It'll look like a big family tree.

Hopefully a breeder will come along and correct anything I said that is wrong :). This is how it works in my country. Also a pedigree baby must be registered with the rabbit council here.

Rockchip,

In the UK, I believe you will have more luck if you look for the breeders that breed "Mini Lops". Those are equivalent to Holland Lops in the US. They are one of the most popular breeds in the UK, you really shouldn't have that much of a problem finding a good breeder.

If you are truly considering breeding, it sounds like you have a lot of research ahead of you. I'd look up a show in your area, and search out some breeders to have mentor you. Also, you will need to start with good, show quality, pedigreed stock.

Here is a link that will direct you to shows in your area:

Breeding isn't something to take on lightly. You should have a goal for your breeding program, and a plan for when something goes wrong with your pregnant does.

I'd be glad to answer any other questions, if you have any. I am from the US- otherwise I could put you in touch with some great breeders. Good luck!
