I was wondering if the lichen that grows on Red Alder (Alnus rubra) is okay for rabbits to eat. It's a light colored lichen with a very pleasant smell that seems popular with every rodent or rodent-like creature I've met. I gave a very tiny amount to my rabbit Peter, and he adores it, but Jack won't touch it. I know that the local beaver eats it like candy, and he's been around for years and years... But you never know. Rabbits aren't beavers. So, has anyone ever given their rabbits lichen?

According to my research, wild rabbits do eat lichen so it should be ok. I would just keep it as a rare treat to be fed in small amounts. If you notice anything "off" about your rabbits after feeding it then simply stop.
