Hey,Carrie! 
Usually you'll see redness around thewound margins and oozing (sometimes the oozing is clear, sometimeswhite, sometimes yellow). The closer to yellow the color ofthe oozing, the worse the infection is. Also, it naturallywould be sore around that area.
