hi.

quick background - hubby and I were given 3 new zealand rabbits that are right under a year old. we have 2 females and a male. we have had them 3ish weeks. the females live in a 10ft x 4ft rabbit home with a 1.5ft x 4 ft nesting box/area. the male is seperate.

one of the girls had babies 36ish hours ago. they are developing white spots all over them. they look like pimples... like a puss filled white dot with a small black dot in the center.

help? any advice? they appear fed and wiggly. mom seems to be taking good care of them. there are 7.

(we know NO history on the adults. they have been well fed and housed happily since we have had them. they appear healthy and do not have any visually noted abnormalities.)

thank you.

I've read descriptions of it possibly being staff infection or possibly due to the mother passing on rabbit syphilis to her babies. It would be hard to really know for sure without a culture of the pus being done.

Ant bites can also cause similar fluid filled bumps, so make sure there are no ants in the babies nest.
