    The Economic Bunny

    For those who are concerned with pine and cedar because of the aromatic oils, it may help to know that the research indicating those litters cause health problems were done on lab animals who live in almost fully enclosed lab drawers, not in cages with open air circulation. For this reason, if...

    The Economic Bunny

    My rabbits are all older than seven years, and one of them may be 12 years old--we adopted her about 7 years ago and she was estimated as between 5 and 8 at that time. They have never had to have their teeth treated, and they are all good weights according to our vet. I'm sharing their ages...

    Kale = Smelly Cages?

    So far, so good. It isn't smelly in here at all today and when I cleaned cages this morning I saw no unusual poo.

    Kale = Smelly Cages?

    Thank you for confirming my theory, Flick. I will keep it away from now on. It's much less smelly in here today.

    which litter is best?

    Bunnylicked, are they all safe? I saw another post that said something about making sure there weren't additives or something...so I didn't know how to tell which ones might be good or not good. Wal-mart is even closer than the feed store, so if they're an option, I will probably want to give...

    which litter is best?

    Thank you so much. There is a feed shop not far from here; I'll check it out. The most expensive part of my bunnies is the litter!

    Kale = Smelly Cages?

    Thank you, Inle. I appreciate the advice. I'm not sure if both rabbits are smelly-- the whole room is smelly, but I did not see any loose stool in Silver's cage, and the smell is "worst" over near Hope's cage, but at this point it's hard to say because my nose is just stinked-out. My third...

    Kale = Smelly Cages?

    Thank you for helping. Since my last response, I went to give the buns their bedtime pellets and noticed a large (hot-dog sized, almost) glob of soft feces covered in bedding. It might have been there since this morning, since it was on the other side of the cage where I didn't clean (she never...

    Kale = Smelly Cages?

    I buy produce a couple times a week, and with three buns it doesn't last long enough to spoil......this batch of kale was eaten within 24 hours of coming home from the store... Maybe it just doesn't agree with my older bunny, Hope. It seems like her cage is the really stinky one. Maybe she...

    Kale = Smelly Cages?

    I feed it less than a couple times a month. It's probably been two months since I last bought any. Yesterday they had some, and I gave them the rest of the bundle today. There are three bunnies, so they each got about 2-3 stalks over the course of two days. Today, the smell in the TV room (where...

    I'm Afraid I Went Too Far: Starving Surrounded by Hay?

    This is a very late follow up, but I wanted to report that Hope is doing fine these days. Increasing her pellets brought her weight back up and she's had no further signs of flies, increased peeing, or anything else wrong with her. Except for her bad attitude, but that's just her;).

    Kale = Smelly Cages?

    I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed this, or if I am just hallucinating. I don't feed kale very often, but it seems like when I do, my buns' cages just smell awful. We change litter every other day, but by the second day, P.U. Is it just me?

    I'm Afraid I Went Too Far: Starving Surrounded by Hay?

    The vet called with the results today. Kind of frustrating, actually. She is a tiny bit anemic, and has something else that I can't remember that was a little elevated, but nothing amazing or that would in itself explain her weight loss. So, the vet wants to do the whole thing again. At over...

    I'm Afraid I Went Too Far: Starving Surrounded by Hay?

    Hope went to the vet today and the blood panel will be back tomorrow. They said her teeth looked pretty good--not perfect, but not likely to be causing the weight loss.

    How Much Water is Normal for a Bunny to Drink?

    A follow up: As I posted in my other thread, I noticed Hope had lost some weight so I really started to worry the constant drinking was because of hunger. Yesterday I started her back on pellets, and since she got them she has eaten much less hay, and she still has water in her bottle from...

    I'm Afraid I Went Too Far: Starving Surrounded by Hay?

    Thank you all. I agree a tooth check is in order. I'll see if I can find a vet to take a look and if her teeth look fine, do a blood draw to check her kidney function. I looked on the HRS and found a bunny vet here (we just moved here a few months back) and she has an appointment for Thursday...

    What makes your buns Thump

    My Winter has never been a thumper; he's also the friendliest and most people-oriented. Silver, the scaredy-bunny, thumps about everything from loud noises to being stared at. Any time I pick her up, which I do almost daily to carry her outside, she thumps as soon as she's put down. Hope is...

    Personalities?

    We have three rabbits and what I enjoy about them is that they are usually very calm and nonchalant, unlike my noisy and boisterous dogs. Unlike the dogs, they aren't desperate for our attention and are easy on the schedule. Only one of my rabbits is a people-lover who will come over for...
