    Decisions.... decisions.... BROKEN FLEMISH...

Had an interesting conversation about this with a rabbit breeder friend this morning, and she had some very interesting points. First was that if folks were truly determined they could get the variety passed, they could bypass the specialty club completely and go straight to ARBA. They would...

    Decisions.... decisions.... BROKEN FLEMISH...

I had the light grays, and yes size was definitely a problem, always has been, although I did produce a few big ones most were 15-17 lbs, its just how it is with the grays. I have to be honest, I cannot see brokens passing, I can see the oldtime breeders banding together to kill it, they are so...

Did you go to PaSRBA show in Lebanon? Did you stay at the Quality?

We had heat but no hot water, took a very cold shower friday night. Also our sliding glass patio door came right off the hinges when one of my room mates opened it to stick his head out for a smoke. I spent the night worrying that the wind was going to blow it off its tracks back into the...

    Kids showing buns....

You may have to look into a neighboring county, thats what we had to do. 4h is pretty much dead in our county, with the rabbit, chicken and livestock clubs all going belly up. However the next county has a very active 4h, and as long as we were not in any clubs in our county we were free to...

    Very Disappointed in Breeder

Major bummer, happens all the time, thats why its always best to pick up the rabbits yourself and evaluate them before you hand the money over. Ears on buck may improve, may not, I've had funky ears on Flemish and Cremes that improved with age, it also be from a injury, not genetic. One thing...

What is the largest size litter you've ever had? (And breed too)

Flemish Giant 11, 7 survived, all does, she raised 9 as I fostered two from a Satin Angora on her. Florida White has 10 right now, think their 3-4 weeks, all doing well. Floridas can really have large litters, think Blossoms last litter was 11, lost a few along the way, raised 7 or 8.

    Another ID The Breed

I never posted in intro's, just started participating in the forum, no biggie. Without knowing the rabbits origin its hard too say, it does look like a cottontail but could just be a chestnut agouti mix of some sort. More input will be great.

    Rabbit feeds for show bunnies

Heard about the Fibre 3, wanted to find out about it, could you tell us more Dyemond? I called TSC about whats up with the Purina and Nutrena switch over. Their going to be carrying Nutrena horse feed and Purina rabbit and chicken and other feeds. I imagine it would not hurt to ask them if...

    purebred

Pam Nock brought up an important point that not all rabbits on the show table are purebreds, what they do have that allows them to pass for pure is breed type, which it could be argued is more important than a rabbit being purebred. Rabbits are very plastic genetically, and its a common...

    purebred

I think that Australia falls under the BRC(British Rabbit Council) New Zealand appears to have their own parent club. They do both list a Dwarf Lop http://www.thebrc.org/dwarf.htm I do have to say that in the USA your rabbits would be considered crossbreds, as they do not appear to be...

    Cross Breeding

Its called inbreeding(immediate relatives) or linebreeding(cousins aunts uncles etc) Rabbits can handle quite a bit of inbreeding and it can be done, even brother/sister although I would not suggest it for a novice. Show breeders use it to set desirable charateristics all the time, and thats...

    Rabbit feeds for show bunnies

Try here- http://www.nutrenaworld.com/Screens/Specialty.aspx Purina just stinks, I've used all three formulas, green, blue and gray bags, had very poor results. Be warned, the 'Dumor' brand at TSC is made by Purina.

    HELP, PLEASE!

The problem with mycotoxins is that they aren't always spread thruout the entire bag, thats why they suggest mixing the bag up before sending in a sample for testing. I did jump over and read the thread on the infirmary and then ordered the Biosponge and Metronidazole. I got the paste to try...

    HELP, PLEASE!

I spoke to our 4H leader, and got some more info on whats happening. It does appear to be feed related, problem is its not one particular feed, and she's been having problems since last August. Its random, hits a cage here a cage there, does not seem to be a contagious situation, I had...

    HELP, PLEASE!

George is a great guy and has been around forever, he judged at the Carbon County fair and was terrific with the kids. I just spoke to my friend who lost all of the babies this spring, she normally feeds the red bag of Manna Pro, she suddenly remembered that she had 2 bags of the Manna Pro Gro...

    HELP, PLEASE!

bunnybunbunb wrote: I'd really appreciate some more info on this if you do not mind, I feed Manna Pro and have lost a lot of rabbits to bloat and mucoid in the last two months, some of them were older and should not have had a problem. TIA Lion head Lady I just went thru this, its starts out...

WARNING - GRAPHIC RABBITRY DISCUSSION! Kindest way to kill badly deformed kits?

I can't advocate freezing, or drowning, both are unpleasant and not immediate. Cervical dislocation is best, but not easy with tiny kits. I have used CO2 chambers which were professionally made, it seemed quick and painless done properly, first just enough to put the animal to sleep, then you...

I was plucking my angora rabbit and she died

fffarmergirl wrote: I must admit, you made me smile with what you posted above because quite frankly even after all these years in rabbits I have absolutely no idea what a 'binky' is. Guess cause I'm a breeder and hang out with breeder types I've missed it somehow, I feel so ignorant!

    Building a rabbit warren

Lots of folks set up colonies for their rabbits like your talking about, works well with short coated breeds, knew someone who tried it with angoras. She had badly matted rabbits with straw woven into their coats very quickly, couldn't keep them clean, gave up and put them back in cages. I...
