    What is a good litter

I use Megazorb. It comes in 80litre bags and only costs £7-£8 per bag. It lasts me around 2 weeks. I used to use Carefresh but it was too expensive for me to use.

newb alert --needs info on lionheads :)

A long hutch is better IMO because then they have more running space. Hay keeps for a whole year as long as it is kept dry. A hay bale lasts me 3-4 weeks, however i use hay for bedding too as well as feeding, so if it was just used for feeding, a bale would probably last me a couple of...

    Food..AHH?

don't give the rabbits grass cuttings. i think it ferments once you mow it and will cause a digestive upset to the rabbit.

is this cage to big or to small? I really want to know

I would recommend getting a run as well so that it can run around more and explore whilst you are away. And there is nothing wrong with keeping a rabbit outdoors. Mine are outdoors all year round.

newb alert --needs info on lionheads :)

Hi. Welcome to the forum!! Rabbits make wonderful pets and lionheads are one of the best. They are friendly and a good size to handle. They may need to be groomed regularly as they do grow long manes. I'm from the UK and I keep my rabbits outdoors. The weather we get isn't too extreme and...

    Food..AHH?

Do you have any pet shops near you? You may be able to get a good quality pellets from there (not a mix). I would introduce them slowly as changes shouldn't be sudden. Handfeed a couple of pellets for 2-3 days, then increase the amount of pellets slowly, until you can give them a small handful...

    Timothy Pellets

it sounds about right for a day's amount. Mine get 5g each twice a day (total 10g per day which is about 1 small handful).

    Indoor to Outdoor Rabbits?

I don't see anything wrong with indoor rabbits being put outdoors, as long as you don't put them out when the indoor temperature and the outdoor temperature are very different (ie during the winter when indoors is warm and outdoors is very cold). Can you tell us what temperatures your area...

    Water

Mine have both the bowl and the bottle. One of my rabbits prefers the bottle, the other prefers the bowl so I give them both.

    Volunteering and then changing

Yes, it is very important. You could carry VHD on your clothes and EC from touching their urine (or even picking up a rabbit and putting your arm under their bottom). It is very important to change your clothes and wash your hands and arms thoroughly before handling your own rabbits.

Newbie needs help with hutch bathroom problem

Mine have toileted in their bedroom area since day one and they are now 3 years old. It's not a huge problem for me as I just clean out the bedroom area every day so it's nice and clean for them during the night (they go into their run during the day). It would be so much easier if they used a...

    How much to feed him?

I wouldn't feed him more pellets. Mine are so excited to get their pellets but I know they are not starving cos they have unlimited hay. Mine don't get fed veg or fruit either. They never did very well with it and I find they are very healthy on large amounts of hay and a little amount of pellets.

    What to feed them?

I've haven't heard about shedding and needing a high protein diet. Oxbow Bunny Basics/T is a great food, I would recommend feeding it.

    Harnesses

I don't agree with harnesses either, unless your rabbit is very content and is not likely to bolt. Rabbits can move very quickly and if the lead is too short, the rabbit could be jerked backwards. I'd rather put the rabbit out in a pen. Couldn't you build a pen in your parent's house?

    Future Breeding Setup

Just because its easier to clean, especially as lots of rabbits are going to share the same ground.

Sabine wrote: hopefully get it made, maybe build the runs myself. I'll see how much it costs to have someone else makethe hutchesand see if there's a possibility I could build the hutches instead. The sheds will be bought to fit the amount of hutches I want and then we'll go from there.

    Future Breeding Setup

Thanks. I think I'll add another shed for any youngsters I run on or any rabbits that are brought back to me if their owners can't keep them, and for any pet rabbits that I own before I start up the breeding programme.

    Future Breeding Setup

Smoke Pearl is a native breed of Scotland and it is a rare breed. They are gorgeous rabbits with amazing temperaments and I want to help save the breed. Thanks CiaraPatricia, I like my animals to live in the life of luxury even though they are breeding animals, they will still be my pets.

    Future Breeding Setup

Hiya In the future, I would love to breed Smoke Pearls. I've been thinking about the setup and I wonder what you all think about it. Maternity Shed 4 hutches, all each 8ft long, 3ft deep and 2ft high. (space for 2 litters at any one time) Total hutch space = 16ft long, 3ft deep and 4ft high...
