Hey everyone,

I have a lionhead and a Fuzzy Lop that are starting to change out their coats and I can not get this fur under control. I'll spend 15 minutes brushing my lionhead and not make a dent and I swear I have to do it 24/7 if I wanted to achieve anything. His hair is the worst. Fluffy **** that floats everywhere... My fuzzy lop hasn't really started shedding out yet, but you can tell she's about to because her skirt almost looks matted (it doesn't feel like it is, though). Brushing her achieves absolutely nothing.

I read on here some where that some people were recommending the shedding blocks like I can pick up at the tack store? would that work for both of these breeds? Does anyone have any other solutions? Neither of them like being brushed much at all, so I feel bad wrassling with them to get their brushing :( (My fuzzy lop hates being handled in general. She's a little prima donna!)

I got one of the shedding blocks & it did nothing for Honey. She's been shedding 4 weeks now. I started out with a brush but switched to just pulling gently on the parts that stick out & then putting the fluff into a small bowl of water so it doesn't float away. But even so, Honey hides when she sees me coming.

I lightly mist my rabbits with a spray bottle so the hair doesn't float around and get in my eyes/as much everywhere. I don't soak them, but just a light misting keeps it in check!

I have a furminator for my dog, and I use that on my bunnies.

Knew what I was getting into when I got my Lion Heads. From Day One I've handled both of them and have brushed every day. So it keeps the shedding down. I haven't experienced a full shedding, but since I brush every day it will keep them from ingesting their hair. And always papaya available during this period.

I use two types of combs and it works for me.

Never had lionheads or fuzzy lops, but perhaps you could try plucking? I find it helps. ie. Soak your hands with some water. Next, run your hands through your buns, and pluck the strands that stick out. Then, go through with a brush and comb.

Whether combing or plucking, my suggestion is, especially with your Fuzzy Lop who hates to be handled, do it in small time increments and build up slowly to where you can sit for a good 15 minutes and do what you need to do. That's what I did with Neville and am doing with Luna. I know that their "high maintenance" when it comes to brushing. But I have to say my Sable Marten is shedding a lot now but he loves to sit on my lap and get "groomed".

Treats will also help some tolerate the grooming. But I haven't had to do that as I worked with Neville and Luna every day. I knew what I was getting into when I decided to get long haired rabbits.

Wishing you luck. Shedding is a pain but it's a fact of life with any bunny.

Thanks for the help everyone. Part of the problem with these two is that they're adopted from other people (and I consider one a true rescue). The lionhead was adopted from a friend shortly after she adopted him from a family who got him as an Easter Bunny *eyeroll*. Turns out he was PETRIFIED of dogs, so that's why I got him. My Fuzzy Lop was severely underfed when I went to see her. I didn't really want a long haired bunny...but she was so skinny that I couldn't walk away. The owner claimed she knew plenty about bunnies, but it was clear that she didn't. And then they met each other and promptly wanted nothing to do with me and only with each other :p Luckily they're not truly frightened of me. The Fuzzy Lop is offended when I touch her, I swear. Like when you pet a cat without permission. So, since there doesn't seem to be any easier routes, it seems daily brushing is the way we'll have to go! Thank you!
