Hello all,
So its that time again (springtime, easter, etc) and lately i get to listen to how some of my co-worker's children would just LOVE to get a bunny for Easter, even tho its pretty clear none of them really know what they're getting into. I made a facebook stand today, just wanted to send a message with good intentions to all the rabbit-ignorant peeps that get a little trigger happy once the flowers start to bloom. wanted to share with you guys, thx in advance :)

Look forward to reading your message. Hope you copy and paste here for those who come to venture on RO to get some info.

Really need to get the message out. Get your child a chocolate candy bunny for Easter. If their child really wants a bunny, the child has to understand that bunnies aren't a toy, or a dog or a cat. Completely different responsibility and takes time for that trust to build. And the parents MUST be involved completely too.

K :)

here's what it is: (there's a pic of Ker-Plunk but can't figure out how to get the photo on this post)

Hello everybody, my name is Ker-Plunk Thane Paha-Charles, and I am 10 days old today. I was the unexpected surprise to my rescue mom, Tosha. We are Holland Lop Rabbits. Right now there are thousands of babies just like me being born to rabbits in rescue shelters, pet shops, breeders, and those who have been abandoned. You may think that a cute little button like me will make the perfect pet for your children, especially since Easter is just around the corner. To those of you considering buying a rabbit as a gift to anyone for Easter, I beg you to reconsider and to please, PLEASE do your research on the care, health and well-being of our kind. The sad fact is that thousands of rabbits are purchased during the Easter season and springtime only to be abandoned and neglected once it becomes clear to an owner that we require as much time, care, and loving as your pet dogs and cats. Many times, their outcome is not as happy as my mommy’s. We are not meant to sit in a cage all day everyday and are most certainly not the best pet for your small child. We are intelligent and have feelings and a zest for life. Please do your research first; the internet contains a wealth of knowledge concerning all things domestic rabbit. Thank you for listening and Happy Hopping :D.

Wonderful info, it's just perfect!
Pembrooke would like to add her info.
Hello all, it's me Pembrooke. So. You are considering a nice soft fluffy cuddly bunny for your darling children. You've done your research (maybe) So I've come to quiz you.
Do you know that pet stores can sex rabbits wrong?
Do you know that we need to be spayed or neutered?
Are you prepared in spending over $500 a year on your rabbit?
Do you know if your local rescue has rabbits?
Do you know that rabbits don't eat just pellets?
Do you know how long your kids attention span is on a new toy?
If you answered no to any one of these questions, get your doll a little stuffed rabbit or a chocolate. Are you really willing to have a wonderful little rabbit sit in a hutch for years deprived, or are you gonna give yours a good life for 10-15 years. Yes, we live 10-15 years. Sometimes we aren't gentle or like being picked up, most of the time we hate it. We want you to love us forever, but sometimes we don't show it. Do your research or even better, say no to your kids. Make yours stuffed or chocolate. Bunnies of the world will thank you.

If someone was super clever, they'd rent out easter bunnies.

That would be tricky depending on how it was done. My rabbits are therapy buns and love visiting people. However, I would NEVER leave them alone with anyone when they are away from home. I don't even like leaving them at the vet unless it is totally unavoidable. It's way too stressful for them to be on their own.

To rent out my kids to strangers would be horrible. I would see it the same as renting out a human toddler to someone that wants to see if they want to have children. Perhaps fostering would be a better idea for someone that is not ready for a 10 year commitment?

Good, TinksMama. I would add shelter as a good place to get a rabbit.

I have the adopting part refering to a shelter.....I'm gonna fix the wording. Thanks for mentioning that!!!

Just fixed it. ;)

And we always tell people that bunnies are not a good pet for small children. They can be hurt really easily and do need more maintenance than a canine or feline. Always like the "make mine chocolate" promoted by HRS, and I do so like chocolate anyway.
