Injury

I just went outon my lunch hour and picked up some romaine lettuce, quaker oats, more timothy hay, and some timothy based pellets (I have been feeding an alfalfa based pellet due to finances and having to feed and care forseveral animals) I will start by changing Dora over slowly and maybe I can switch the others eventually (especially if I cut down on the amount that I feed)

I don't feed veggies every day, maybe two or three times a week.

I have acidophilus capsules to help keep the intestinal tract working properly. I'm still trying to figure out the best way to get it in her. Any suggestions?

My vet called me this morning to see how Dora was doing. Didn't like the fact that she hasn't really eaten anything and told me to call right away once I get home if she still hasn't eaten.

Please keep your fingrs crossed for her.

Mix the acidophilus with a low sugar juice and suck it up into a syringe. Give about half the mixture twice a day (I believe that's what the vet told me to give Zeke). Zeke really liked his.

She may not be eating from the pain or her stomache may be upset from the antibiotics. Zeke's appetite never slowed down and he was on pain meds for well over a week. I would definitly give your vet a call if she's not eaten when you get home.

Well she didn't eat all day I washed off a couple of the romaine leaves and gave them to her but she didn't seem too interested. She nibbled on both of them but didn't eat all of it.

Called my vet back and she had me come in to pick up some metacam and some critical care. She said she wants to see her tomorrow if she isn't eating by then so I scheduled a late day appointment. *Hopefully* she will be back to normal and I can cancel the appointment.

Aww, poor girl.

Lets hope the metacam works for her. It normally takes a while to kick in. So give it to her ASAP and then she should be eating by the morning if pain was the cause. You may want to give her some critical care just before the metacam so she's not taking it on an empty stomache.

If she'll take some pedialyte or watered down juice, give her as much as she'll take to help keep her hydrated. Hydration should help her feel better too and might peak her appetite.

Thanks for the link Dawn, I may have to read it tomorrow night as I still have lots to do this evening and then off to work tomorrow morning. I'm beat....

I went to CVS and got some apple flavored pedialyte (what I had here at home was expired) not really sure how much to give her but I filled a small syringe and gave it to her (she is really starting to not like me putting stuff in her mouth)

Just gave her another dose of antibiotics and I'm going to feed some more critical care one more time tonight and one more shot of pedialyte. Hopefully in the morning she will make her mama happy by having a dirty litterbox and an empty dish/hay rack.

Dora had to see the vet again today as she is still not eating on her own

She got an injection of metoclopramide (reglan) to help get her stomach and intestines moving properly. She mixed some up (apple flavored) for me to give her three times a day until she is eating normally (I hope that is soon)

Dora ripped out a few of her stitches tooso she also had to have a few staples. I felt so bad for her and she was such a good girl about the whole thing.

Dora is finally perking up today, she seemsmore interested in what is going on around her. I let Oreo (aka One Bad Bunny) out andDora waschecking her out. She is eating romaine on her own and seems to like the critical care. She even looked in her pellet dish but didn't take any, I guess it's a good sign that she seems interested.

I am going to post some more pic's so I have some reference if I should ever need it again (although I certainly hope not)

Yay Dora! You eat your food for you mommy so you can heal up nice and fast.

OUCH! Those look like they hurt...phooy!
I hope she keeps on a good track here and starts eating all by herself again. I don't know why these buns like to make us a nervous wreck eh?

Thank you, I still can't believe this happened. Hopefully she will continue to improve and we can both get past this experience.

That sure was one nasty injury!

But I'm glad to hear that she's eating again. Devon was put on reglan after his bad bout with stasis and it seemed to do the trick. I know there is controversy as to whether gut motility drugs should be used, but I don't understand enough to explain the advantages or disadvantages. All I know is that Devon got better rather quickly.

By the way, I found that the reglan pills can easily be put into a craisin since the pills are so small.

Dora went to see Dr McClaren today to have her stitches and staples removed. She is healed up and now just has to grow her hair back

That's great. I hope she gets her fluffy butt back soon
