Since the last 3-4 days I noticed my 1+ year old female Holland lop (unspayed) smelling and licking and then eventually eating her poop. It’s not ceco’s, it’s the actual poop. She hasn’t done this before. She is very territorial and since she’s not fixed could that be the reason? Or is it a sign of worms/parasites? I haven’t seen any worms in her poop though. And she’s acting fine otherwise. However last week she overproduced cecotropes and left about 5-6 of them lying around. I suspected it was because I was giving her too many pellets and fruit so I cut back on those and she stopped overproducing the ceco’s however today I saw her eat her own poop and got worried.

Hello, just an update: I inspected my rabbits poop very carefully with my phone’s torch. I saw an ant like bug crawling on it. It wasn’t white. Just brown like an ant but not quite an ant either. It was just crawling on the surface of ONE poo. I saw another one on the floor and not on the poop so it’s possible it was just some ant type of bugs on the bedroom floor and one climbed on the poop? But out of curiosity, isn’t worms in poop meant to look like those white long worms?

That bug came from elsewhere, just a bug.
Well, you definitly know it's worms when you see them, but I'm not so sure about the lenght, you can google "rabbit worms" or "rabbit pinworms", or look it up on Medirabbit.com

I've heard of rabbits eating bunny berries, not so rare, but I have no idea why they do it.

reading about the ceco's, your Bun might need more fibre, like fresh grass or hay, or you might need to cut down the pellets you feed, or cut out a couple of veggies you give if you give any.
But then on the other hand it might be a one of thing your Bun has left so many.
Has your Bun left lots since?

Yes it wasn’t anything like a pinworm. Bunny berries? No I’m not talking about my bunny eating cecotropes. I’m talking about the actual poop the round one 😅

She didn’t leave any more ceco’s after I cut down the pellets and fruit. I’m confused though, I’m not even giving her the amount of pellets that the pack recommends should be given according to the bunny’s weight. I was aware that bunnies stop eating hay as they prefer pellets which is why I was careful and would give like half the recommended amount but a bit surprised that even that caused her to overproduce ceco’s. I use grain free pellets from Selective Naturals. But it’s possible it may have occurred from the treats and fruit as well. Maybe I gave her too many different things and her digestive system went in overdrive

Sometimes they just do weird stuff.
My lady Iris had also begun eating her regular poop when it was just released. She won't eat them usually, but if she'd just dropped one and happened to turn around, she would eat it. No clue why she would do it,for she is healthy as can be. i only know this habit of hers happened sometime after she lost her husbun.

I had a lionhead mix that loved to eat poop. She was not spayed. She did it for the entire twelve years of her life and never had health issues. I joked that poop eating was her secret to longevity.

I caught my black and white bunny (in avatar) licking her pee yesterday! Never saw that before.

I know some dogs eat their poop too so I suppose it’s just an animal thing! Thanks for your responses! :)
