so i’m currently not in town and i asked my family to watch him for a day while i was gone. they just recently called me and said my bubbles was bleeding from his foot and one of them decided to put coffee grinds to help the wound and wrap it up in gauze. they send me this picture after they took it off and i’ve heard this can give them poisoning. i told them to try and take it off but not much of it is coming off and i’ve also told them to put some neosporin on the wound. i’m so stressed right now i’m scared that he’ll eat it and get poisoning. i heard only a certain amount could and depending on how big they were too. he’s about id say around 7 or 8 pounds and this is the picture of his leg. i’m sorry this sounds like a mess i’m just so stressed and i want advice to tell them what to do next until i get back. will this harm him?

They should clean the wound, they can use salt water (saline) which they can make easily at home. Salt it’s a natural microorganism killer, at least I use saline when cleaning wounds.

I would use saline or you can buy a chlorhexadine soap (usually a blue bottle) over the counter at a pharmacy. You mix with water to diluate as indicated. Both options will wash the wound. The coffee may have just stained the area rather than be residual coffee that will poison him.

Hi, hopefully your situation is getting better now I would also try to brush out some coffee from his fur before cleaning it with salt water it would just let you see better what he has on his skin as coffee grounds just make it looking quite messy and it is maybe not that scary when you remove them with dry brush or comb. I use a simply comb like this removing any dry dirt from fur it works pretty well.

Hm, if I see that right that wound is on the hock, no fur there - sore hocks? Check if this is a possibility for the wound.

My buck got sore hocks a few months ago, from hopping awkwardly behind his girl on hard floor and asphalt, there was a blood track all through the house. I covered everything in rugs and cardboard, and fenced off the asphalt areas, did heal fine.

Imho, no chance that that the coffee can poison your rabbit. Anyway, for cleaning wounds, ears, etc a saline solution is better , about 2% table salt in water, that brought to boil to desinfect (in this concentration salt is not desinfecting anything).
