Hi everyone! In a month or 2, I will be going on vacation to Ocean City, Maryland and I wanna know the basics of traveling with a bunny. I never took Teddy on a trip so I wanna know how to do it right. It is a 4 hour ride to get there. I know that I will have to make a lot of pit stops. I just wanna know, What should I bring. He is a free roamed bunny and im taking him to a pet friendly hotel for 3 day.So yeah please give me advice THANKS!!

Try to make him use with the travel cage, fill it up with hay and when you stop give your bun water or wet veggies.

It’s better to let him stay in the travel cage the whole time, If you aren’t taking long stops. To make it less stressful. Some rabbit doesn’t really like going for long travels, but often they will eat the hay but avoid drinking.

You will need hay, food, maybe a litter box but if he can use the travel cage as a litter box and the litter he’s used with so he now where to go.

That’s what I do when I go somewhere with my rabbits. I often had treats on hand, which I gave them while traveling to make them more calm. Make it a better experience for them.

So now both my younger rabbits will just flop in the travel cage and sleep.

Thanks for the advice! I knew it would me less xpencive to take him with me than to get a pt sitter to watch him!

The fewer stops, the better. I find that stopping frequently only stresses them. Just when they get settled and used to the hum of the car engine, it stops. Better to keep the trip as short and direct as possible.

I keep hay available in the carrier but seldom do they ever eat (unless they get really comfortable).

Here are tips on how to set up the carrier, etc.

This is how we set up a rabbit area in a hotel room. We brought mats from their current cage so it would be more familiar. It may not be clear in photo, but we had a heavy duty tarp (blue) that we put down on the carpet first. Then we put a blue fleece blanket on top of that. (may not be clear to see since both are blue) The cardboard box can travel easy if broken down and it provides a nice hidey to make them feel safe in a strange place. (note the box is in the middle of the area so that it cannot be used by the rabbits as a step up over the pen wall)
