Hello all, I have been away from this forum for a long time, but I have a question. I just adopted a bunny yesterday that came with his entire setup, which I believe is a C&C cage, because it's a grid with no bottom and no top. He is litterbox trained, so what should I use for the bottom? His pen will be kept on the basement floor, which is cool and dry. Is that too cool for him? His previous home set the cage on a shower curtain liner, with puppy pads on top, and that was kept in a bedroom. I've never had a setup like this so I want to be sure he will be ok on the basement floor. Thank you so much for your thoughts.

For my litter trained rabbit cage, I put fleece blankets on The bottom nice and smooth then one more messily on top of that one. My rabbit loves it and it keeps her feet warm. I hope this helped :)

I used a piece of rolled linoleum for the bottom of my C&C cage. Is the current floor just cement? (couldn't tell from what you wrote) If it is cement, just know that cement does absorb liquid (ie. urine), so if that is the case, you may want to put something like lino down.

Does the cage have upper levels? I had carpet on upper levels. If yours is just one level, then you could have some folded fleece as a "bed" in addition to the lino. This gives bunny options -- cool floor for when he desires that, and warm fleece when he desires that. Always good to provide options!

The puppy pads they used seemed like a waste -- especially if bunny is litter trained. I'm surprised he didn't chew or tear them up.

Here's a photo of my old cage with lino floor. Note that the lino edge has to be just barely past the C&C walls so that bunny can't access the edge to chew on it (even though it sounds like your rabbit may not be so inclined if he left puppy pads alone).
