My favorite kind of threads are those that all of us bunny lovers can band together and share stories and photos and laugh together.

My apologies if someone's already started a thread like this, and I just didn't see. Just let me know if they have. I want to know where you're from and the backstories to how you got your bunnies! I've read some people's stories, and they're so interesting. We're all from different parts of the world with different cultures and societal norms, but we're bonded by the same passion - rabbits!

To start, I'll share how we came across our Srecko (though it's not as interesting of a story as most I'm sure, but who cares! :p).

My boyfriend Bojan and I live in San Diego, CA. :sunshine: About a week ago, we were talking about his family's 8 year old rabbit Pero who they've always wanted to get a buddy for. Pero grew up being the only rabbit around, and they definitely spoiled him all his life, as any bunny owner should. :) But they always wanted to get another rabbit so that Pero has a bunny-friend. My boyfriend and I wanted to get one, but since we live in a condo, Bojan said it's not humane to get a rabbit since it won't have ample room to enjoy life. I offered up the idea of getting a dwarf rabbit since they don't get much bigger than 5 lbs or so - perfect size for a condo! He loved the idea and so we went on Craigslist and the first ad I looked at was exactly what we both wanted - an all white dwarf buck. We picked him up the next day and it turns out he has two different colored eyes, one blue and one brown. If it wasn't already love at first sight, it was then when we realized he had unique eyes. :bunnyheart We named him Srecko, which is Serbian for "The lucky one" or "The happy one" (Bojan's family is from Serbia). We've now had him for a week, and it's going really well. We can't wait to introduce him to Pero! Bojan's family live in Modesto, CA (central-valley) where we're both from originally, so they won't be able to meet until Thanksgiving when we have a break from school. By then, Srecko will be neutered, so we're hoping the bonding process goes smoothly!

Here are a few pictures (because, admit it, that's the favorite part about this forum or all of us, isn't it?)...

I just have to say that is one cute bun!!! And what a nice story 😊 It looks like a dwarf hotot. They make great rabbits for condos. I live in a condo and have a Netherland dwarf and polish mix.

Hope he adjusts quickly... 🐰☺

Thanks! He's actually adjusting really well so far. :) And glad to hear we're not the only ones homing our rabbit in a condo. We were hesitant at first but it works out, doesn't it? Your rabbit is adorable by the way!

Te above is a link about oscar and his myxi

I read through your story and I've got to say, it really touched me. I definitely teared up at parts, but overall it made me feel empowered and so sentimental. I respect you immensely for not giving up on your animal... I can't stand it when people aren't willing to do whatever it takes to care for their pet. You're amazing, thanks so much for sharing. :hearts

Thank you for your kind words :bunny18 I totally agree with what you say about taking care of your animals and putting the effort in, it makes me mad too when lazy people can't be bothered.

P.s love the colour of Srecko's eyes very striking

I'm pretty much a leaper not a looker. I was searching German classified ads and saw one for a "free bunny." I dont know I just felt the need to go take a look. What could it hurt? I dont know why I was like "lets take her!" I pretty much knew nothing about rabbits and had to do a lot of research quickly. This forum has been the best so far. We've had Shya a 4 pound petite mix almost two years now. It really seems like so much longer. She's pretty stand offish, stubborn, downright mean sometimes, fearless, tough, punctured one eye, lost another, and been filleted open by the same rabbit twice. She's flown about 5000 miles driven well over 2000 miles and traveled so much that really nothing phases her. My husband and I are secretly terrified of her. Somehow she's become the basis for our family motto. God may take an eye but that's why he gave you two! Nothing brings that little bad rabbit down. She jumps right back up and is usually throwing a punch or two while doing it.

Her name is Ellie, short for Elvira. She's a mis-marked Dutch.
I got Ellie from a pet shop. I went in just to check out the bunny situation. They were fine, even loved on the store Rex. I was walking back by them, they had food and water and hay, then out pops this tiny little black and white rabbit. Out from under another rabbit. She was a quarter of the size of the rest of them, including the other Dutch who were supposed to be her siblings. I asked the lady how old she was, she told me 8 weeks. It was a lie. She was like 6 weeks. I took her with me. She was so small, she could fit in the palm of my hand.
Two days after I got her, I lost my beloved Mini Lop. I had Ellie to keep me company while I mourned the loss of my Bunny Foo Foo. But I'm here to tell you, it was a really tough thing to do. Ellie is the polar opposite of Foo, even in color.
As the months went on, we got to know each other. She has destroyed 2 major appliances-fridge and washing machine. She's eaten like 15 boxes, made 3 huge nests, pulled enough fur to be totally bald on her chest, pulled the cats fur. She's made friends with one cat.
She also, boxes my hands constantly, grunts, and lunges. But then says she sorry by grooming my hair!
She lives free range in my kitchen and thumps at the dog hard enough to shake the house.
She knows her name and will come when called.

Thank you! He thinks he's cute too! 😊It's not so bad having a rabbit in a condo. I spoil my rabbit so he takes up more room then he should. But he is very happy, always running around. I am lucky my Buster doesn't like to chew things he shouldn't so he has free range when I'm around.

I can't get over how cute your little guy is! I may just have to bun nap him! 😍🐰

Exactly, it's like why'd you even get an animal? Go get a pet rock if you don't want to be bothered. lol And thanks! We love his eyes too! The breeder didn't mention it before we got there. We think he was the last one chosen because of the eyes (seems like most people think it's creepy), but it was love at first sight for us!

Has anyone ever told you you should be a writer (if you aren't already)? Because you should look into it. I thoroughly enjoyed this post, along with all the registries for your bunnies. So humorous, it made me laugh, I loved it. I'd love to see your Shya in action... Have you ever posted any videos?? I think the bond between Shya and Kai is so sweet - I believe everything happens for a reason and there's definitely a reason you impulsively adopted Shya. If for no other reason, she's needed by Kai.:hearts:

Firstly, I'm so sorry to hear for your loss of Foo :( I'm glad however that you had the company and love of Ellie to get you through. The rest of your story is so funny though, Ellie really seems like a character! I can't believe she destroyed your fridge and washing machine! Haha

Hahaha, we can trade temporarily? Deal? :) Hehe, just kidding. Yeah so far it's not bad having a rabbit in a condo, but it does make me feel better that Srecko is a dwarf so the world is just a little bigger to him than your average rabbit. And yes, from other stories I've heard, you're very blessed to have a rabbit that doesn't chew on things he shouldn't. So far, Srecko doesn't either, but it's only been a little over a week, so knock on wood!! :twitch:

Hi all,, my story is, My sister found a stray rabbit in her garden about ten years ago, she was a netherland dwarf she was grey in colour, at first we did not know what sex she was so we called her smoky, once we got used to her personality we renamed her cheeky, I bought her an indoor rabbit cage which she spent all of half an hour in before she had free run of the living room ha, we decided to get some friends not knowing anything about rabbits in those days, I rescued a paired male and female from the Rspca I tried to put cheeky with the other two they were already bonded but it did not work, so I then had to go and get another one for cheeky, anyway I eventually left my husband who put the reins on me a bit as far as taking in rabbits was concerned, and now I have 18 rabbits and 5 guinea pigs all rescued from rescue centers or from people who no longer wanted them, they are all paired up they have been neutered and now have a forever home with me. I work in the care profesion full time day and night to afford them they cost me a fortune in vet bills ha ha, some of them have sad stories to tell but they are all loved and wanted and have a forever home now with me, my back garden is like a rescue center they all live in sheds with runs attached so they can come in and out when they want, four of the rabbits live as house rabbits and the guinea pigs live in dog crates in the kitchen designed for large dogs, they do look a bit lost in them but they have plenty of room and they are lovely and warm in the winter, sorry not figured out how to add pics yet will do in time, hope Ive not bored you all,I love this site nice to be able to share with like minded people who care for animals.

The hay and his paper shredding litter takes up a lot of space. That is the biggest problem. I buy 4 different kinds of hay because Buster won't eat just one kind. :biggrin2:

Also my fridge is also always filled with veggies. I need a bigger fridge. My condo is about 1550 square feet so I have a good amount of space for Buster to run. I treat him like a cat. During the day I keep him in my bedroom, in the evening when I'm home he gets the rest of the house. And when I sleep he sleeps in an x-pen. I am lucky he doesn't like stairs or wood floors, so he stays out of the kitchen and the den.

I like the story of how I got Buster. I won him at a raffle at an event I was working. He was sitting in a kennel cab being poked with carrots all day. I felt terrible and wanted to give him a forever home.
The previous owner didn't want to get him neutered so he gave him away. He was a crazy rabbit before he was neutered, his behavior is so much better now.
I am very lucky that he is not much of a chewer/digger. I have heard nightmare stories about chewing. He has chewed a few of my phone chords, but that seems to be it :bunnyheart , I can't be mad, he's just too cute!

I have a facebook page for Buster,(it's public I think) if you wanted to see more pictures, I know I love looking at cute bunny pictures. Keep yours coming!

Such a cute bunny! Love his name and eyes. I love the picture of you two with him, it's so cute and sweet. :] I love hearing about happy stories for animals. :bunnydance:

---

Clover is our first bun. Year old and spayed. We were visiting this no-kill shelter called Four Footed Friends by our friend's new apartment. They only take cats and dogs, but had this one black and white bunny. I've been wanting a rabbit for over three years now, so I kept a close eye on here. We visited the shelter a few times (to play with all the cats) and I checked on her each time we visited.

Fiance finally decided to trust me to take care of a rabbit. I knew instantly which one I wanted--her. I didn't think I would be well experienced enough to handle a baby bun, or train one. And god forbid we have to move to Florida (in PA right now). I wanted a bun used to moving and louder noises. So I asked the shelter about her and her personality.

Not big on being held, likes to be pet and fed by hand. About a year old, and was someone's discarded Easter present. Litter trained and very used to cats. Perfect. We went to the shelter to fill out paperwork, but it turned out they were going to relocate her to another shelter (she had been there since May). They had us promise to update our two cats on their shots (they don't go outside ever, so I didn't bother to have them updated. Up to date now, though.) and let us walk out with her that day. We didn't have any bunny gear though, so we took her to Petco with us and spent about $250 in basic supplies for her. Then dropped another $400 on the cats' visit.

I could have just bought a baby bun at the store for $45, and had about a $50 vet bill to get her checked up and that would be the end of it, but this is the bun I wanted. I could spend any amount to keep her, just like my cats, and it would still be well worth it. I've been working on talking off her molted fur daily along with her little eye crusties. Taking her to a rabbit specialized vet soon to have them teach me how to clip her nails (since she's not so calm and as robust as the cats I am used to) and how to relax her and check her glands, etc. My fiance and I already think she looks a lot happier and healthier.
