Just wanted to share my new doggy with you. :D

He is a Japanese Akita, his full name is Kyokujitsu Jiro Go, we are calling him Jiro. He's two years old, and bred by Kyokujitsu Akitas. His old owners gave him up as they started breeding Rottweilers and Jiro wasn't getting on with their Rottie male.

He's gorgeous, and so sweet. Not much of a typical Akita though, he loves everybody, is great with other dogs and even the rabbits and he hasn't got a guarding bone in his body! He likes to stand up and put his paws over my shoulders for a cuddle.

I am in love! :biggrin2:

Thank you! :biggrin2:

His ears are so soft. I love it when he yawns and puts them back, he looks like a wolf. He keeps opening the hall door by himself at night to come sleep at the bottom of my bed. :D

Hahahah! :biggrin2:

Well, I would...but I love him too much. I tried to put a santa hat on him earlier but it wouldn't fit over his ears, lol.

Thank you!

Thanks polly. He is getting home cooked food as well as dry food, he's loving it. :D

Can't wait 'till it's warm enough to take him to the beach and the woods. Shame I can't let him off the lead though.

Can't remember if I told you Missy is due on Christmas eve, but she's just started building her nest. Fingers crossed for a successful litter this time!

Oh WOW...Jiro is STUNNINGLY gorgeous!

You've got me interesting in learning about the breed (not to get one, but just so I can learn something about them). Tell me what they're like. Got anything online I can read about them? I'm not familiar with his breed, and I'm a VERY curious person. :)

Thanks Rosie.

Here are a few things I've learned from researching the breed.

There are two types of Akita, the original Japanese type and the American type. They look a little different and the Americans don't have such a curly tail, and the American tends to be more territorial and dog aggressive. Generally they are very loyal, protective and territorial. They're usually very gentle and protective of children and it's said that Japanese mothers used to leave the Akitas to watch over thier children when they went to the fields.
They don't usually get on well with other dogs and have a very high prey drive and there are lots of stories of them killing cats and even smaller dogs, for this reason they should never be allowed off the lead if other animals are nearby. They are often very aloof with strangers and extremely protective of their family, often they will position themselves between their owner and a stranger until they feel that it's safe. They are often described as cat like as they're very clean and will wash their face after eating. You should always pay attention when an Akita barks, as they only do so when there is something to bark about. They are extremely intelligent, but often stubborn. They learn fast but will only obey when they want to. They are described as one of the most loyal breeds.

Jiro doesn't fit the breed profile at all, haha. He loves everyone and everything!

This is Jiro's breeders website:

His mum is Manadeshi in the gallery, and Akina is his sister from the same litter.

And here are some Akita pages to read:

And here is a cute video of a Japanese Akita (looks just like Jiro, the colour is called red/white urajiro by the way).

Thank you! :biggrin2:

He's been getting lots of grooming and his coat is looking so much nicer. Gonna do some Christmasy photos with him tomorrow hopefully. :D

Thanks! He sure knows it! You should see how proud he looks when he goes out for a walk. Well, until he decides to roll in some wet leaves. :p
