Sorry for therepost (from a few days ago) but I'd really like to know what breed this little guy is. We got him from the animal shelter and his paperwork said he was a 1--2 y.o. dwarf. His ears and proportionsdon't look like a dwarf (not that I really know that much about dwarf rabs!). He's very petite and frail-boned and can't weigh more than 2-3 pounds, which made me think Britannia Petite, or maybe a mix bc his color doesn't match what I've seen written about that breed.

We did find out that he had been at the city's shelter for 11days!I was sort of shocked when I heard that--didn't think they held onto any animal that long. We probably got him out just in time before he would have met a rather unpleasant end  . Now I feel like we really saved his life! Poor bun!

Anyway, can anyone shed any light on his breed?

Thanks!

I believe the coloring is Fawn, but I'm not 100%sure. Dwarf is the name given to any rabbit under 4 or 5lbs. So many pet shops and shelters will simply call all their small rabbits (mixes or not) dwarfs. Imagine the surprise of the people that get a"dwarf"rabbit from the pet shop only to find they brought home a baby Flemish mix! ButI think you are on the right track in thinking he is a Britannia Petite. He certainly looks very similar to the breed description. Although since he is a shelter bunnythereisa very slim chance that youwill find out forsure.

Either way he is quite a cutie! I love his name. He looks like a Scott.

Edit: Because I just read the title.

A very handsome Heinz 57 for certain LOL

As already mentioned, his color is fawn/orange.

He's not a Brit. Petite. - You're correct about the color not matching any accepted Petite variety, but the non-extension and agouti genes that produce the fawn color are very common in lops and also present in Netherland Dwarfs as well as Mini Rex.

He also doesn't have thesmaller ears or wedged head of a Petite.

He does have the same color (although very light) ofsome Mini Satins, but doesn't appear to have the Satin coat, stocky body, wide shouldersor thicker ears of the Mini Satin.

He looks more like the larger, mixed dwarfs that I've seen.

Its not unusual for shelter animals to spend over a year in a shelter, even if it is a "kill shelter" if they have the room to house the animal, they will keep it for as long as they can to find it a new home, shelters don't want to euthanize any animal, but thats not what you were asking about lol.

In my opinion, he looks like a domesticDwarf rabbit. LOL we came up with that one day at school, they call mutt cats either domestic long hair, domestic short hair, or domestic medium hair, so for rabbits why don't we have a Domestic dwarf, a domestic lop, a domestic Giant and leave it at that. :D

He isn't posed so I can't really tell but with that fawn coloring he may be part palominoand dwarf? It can be really hard to tell on some mixed breeds.
