SIX MAJOR RETAILERS SELLING REAL RABBIT AND OTHER FUR AS FAUX

The HUMANE SOCIETY OF THE UNITED STATES (HSUS) has begun a campaign to crackdown on retailers who are mislabeling real fur, much of it rabbit, as faux fur. Go to http://www.hsus. org/ to see the link featuring a rabbit to their video, FUR REAL, showing the investigation of the mislabeled garments.

More detail about the mislabeling violation and who the violators are on their
web site at:

http://www.hsus.org/furfree/news/holiday_shoppers_real_fur_as_faux_122007.html

An in depth PDF report is available at http://www.hsus. org/web-files/ PDF/fur/hsus- faux-fur- investigation- fall-winter- 2007.pdf

WHAT YOU CAN DO
Ask the Federal Trade Commission, Bureau of Consumer Protection, to crack down on violators of the Fur Products Labeling Act, either online here where you can complete an FTC Consumer Complaint Form:

http://rn.ftc.gov/pls/dod/wsolcq$.startup?Z_ORG_CODE=PU01

Or you can do it by phone: 1 (877) FTC-HELP (382-4357).

Thank HSUS for focusing on a rabbit issue and selecting a rabbit photo to represent the issue by completing an on-line contact form at http://www.hsus. org/contact_ us/fur_free_ campaign. html

I'm not sure about how true some of this is. The articles that tell about them skinning those poor animals alive-I'm sure that it does, tragically, happen at times. But for the fur animals to be treated this way on a large scale doesn't make sense to me. It's supposed to be all about the pelt, right? The sellable comodity.

If the animals are being basically"slammed" in the dirt, etc, before the pelt is sold, the fur would be ruined and no good for sale. Without going into graphic details, the things desribed here as being done to these animals would leave the fur in a muddy, bloody mess, and it's not like you can wash it.
