So I really want a bunny (or 2) but I dont havethat much money and I am afraid it will be too expensive to findsomeone to watch my rabbits when I leave town for a few weeks at a time(i am a grad student away from home) and also too expensive to fly withthem on the plane. How big of a pain is it to travel with bunnies andalso what kind of arrangements have other people worked out to havepeople care for their bunnies? What does everyone think? Bunnies now orwaita few years?

Thanks a ton

PS And if anyone lives in Pittsburgh, I would REALLY appreciate if you have any Pittsburgh-particular advice. Thanks!!!

if money is a big issue i'd say wait.remember with bunnies, come possible vet bills.. sometimes things justhappen with bunnies :( lots of members on here have had theirbunnies to the vet at one time or another.. my little guy managed tobreak his leg and man what a trip that was..

Hi

I'd suggets waiting too. I had bunnies from being 9 years olduntil being 18 and then I went off to University just after I lost mybeloved 'Jacques' - English Spot rabbit. After Jacques died Iwas desperate for another rabbit but I knew that the long periods I wasaway from home and the efforts I was putting into my studying wouldn'tgive me enough time to socialise with a bunny. It was wellworth the wait because I got Benjaminwhen I was22years old and I'm so glad I waited a few years to get another one - itmade me appreciate him all the more but you definitely don't realisehow much work they are!! I spend around 6 hours per day withmy 2 buns. It's up to you what you decide but I applaud youfor asking the question and assessing the situation before going outand choosing a cute bun and then worrying what to do about it later.

I'll give you some Pittsburgh particular advice:

WAIT!

You've got to be able to spend more time with your rabbit(s). Who wouldtake care of them? If it's another family member, that might not me sobad, but the bun would get attached to that person rather that you.Again I would suggest you wait.

I would also say to wait and I think that will bethe general consensus. While I hate to discourage anyone fromtheir animal interests (I think animals are wonderfully soothing andstress relieving for just about everyone), bunnies require lots of timeevery day and money can be a big factor. Spaying andneutering are really important and pretty costly. Myroommates and I had hamsters and turtles while we were inschool. Hamsters are really low maintenance and they did justfine, turtles aren't and well....it showed in their health and thenthey became a big expense because we had to take them to the vet, whata fiasco it turned out to be. Best to wait and save yourbunny love for when school is done. Good luck with gradschool!

How about some tropical fish? :DIalways had a tank at college. Watching fish is very soothing. Therewere tons of nights when I was frantic about a test the next day thatthe fish helped soothe me enough to get to sleep. Just a thought, ifyou're thinking about a pet for right now.
