My most recent adoptee, Brigitte, has a bald tummy! I haven't noticed her chewing at it or anything, and the size of it hasn't changed noticably. I was wondering if this might be common in rabbits and I just haven't come across it or what... anyway, thanks for any responses!

Has she been spayed recently? Is there an injury there? Where did you get her from? Maybe she had a scuffle with another rabbit and had some fur pulled. Check for a scar where there is the bald patch. If nothing, it should grow back and you don't have too much to worry about.

Also check the area for anything abnormal with the skin or under the skin. Any lumbs, marks, brusing.

She was spayed before I got her at Midwest Rabbit Rescue, but there's a tiny patch of hair in the middle of the big bald area, so I'm not sure if it would be from there. I didn't see a scar, but I know she's spayed because that's procedure there. I've had her for a few months and the amount of hair on her tummy hasn't changed, which is why I'm concerned. Plus, she's a huge shedder. Characteristic of Champagne D' Argent perhaps?
Also, it's smooth just like it should be, save a vein that pops up in there. Does it take a long time for fur to grow back?

Some rabbits take a long time to grow their fur back. Sprite's belly was naked for four months after her spay, even though she was molting near-constantly.

I wouldn't be worried about it.

But I do need pics! I love Champagne D'Argents!

I was going to say the same - Misty had a bald patch on her tummy after her spay for a really long time. About 5-6 months I think...

Did I know you adopted from Midwest, I cant remember! lol

I volunteer at Midwest and Ive met Brigitte, shes soo pretty!

Yup, sounds just like a spay scar. My foster boy Max was neutered (er sort of spayed since he had an undescended testicle) about 3 months ago and its nowhere near grown back. Sounds like thats what youre talking about.

:biggrin2:

Brigitte was so amazingly gentle and practically begged me to take her home so I couldn't leave her. Dominique said that people didn't want her because of her blind eye - I think it makes her cuter because when she looks at you she cocks her head all funny like a dog does when it's interested in something.

Also, here's some pictures of her tummy. It's just really strange about the patch in the middle.

Yup, looks like a shave from a spay to me.

Thats just how Max's hair is growing in on his belly-theres a huge bald patch and a little island of hair in the middle.

:biggrin2:

I didnt know she was blind in one eye. Thats so wonderful of you todopt her.Wasnt she one that was found abandoned outside?

That's how Bo molts a lot of the time. He will loose all the hair in an area - the center of which will have new hair coming in and then everything else starts falling out around it if I brush him.
