I have a Netherland Dwarf Albino Rabbit. My husband decided he was going to rescue him from being food for a large reptile. Anyways, he has had repertory infection that we got cured and now he's having hair loss around his eyes. We spoke to our vet and he is sure that he is not sick again and just to putNeosporne around his eyes. We have heard that some rabbits are very sensitive to the litters in there cages. (We keep him in a cage because we have a 4year old and a 16 month old. We do bring him out to interact with everyone when we are around.)I don't know how many different litters we have tried, but I was hoping that someone might have some suggestions on what litters to use or any thoughts about his hair loss around his eyes. Hi,

I'm afraid I can't help because I don't know much about negative reactions to litters, but maybe more information would help someone else to see what the problem is.

Do you remember any of the names of the litters you've tried? (Like CareFresh, Yesterday's News, Feline Pine etc?)

Do you know the type of litter? Paper? Wood, what kind of wood?

The reason I'm asking these questions is because I've read that certain types of litters (like ones made of Cedar) can be harmful to bunnies, so if we narrow down what you've been using it will be easier to find potential answers.


Edited to Add: I use a combination of Care Fresh (for the litter box) and Wood Stove Pellets (for the drop pan below the cage).

do you know ifthe vetvet did any skin scrapings to exam for any kind of mites on your bun?

does he have any other hair loss other than around his eyes?
would it show up on a photo if you posted one/

I would suggest using Yesterday's News for now and see if the sensitivity goes away.

See if it's the litter and if not, see if it's just normal pollutants:?.

Are you talking about litterbox litter? I don't think *many* of us here use "litter" products to cover the bottom of a cage.

On a side note, what kind of cage? If litterbox litter is the issue and he's in a standard store bought cage you may want to consider building a NIC cage so the bun can be away from the litter box space-wise.
