I'm sorry, I'm new and I'm not sure if this is the proper place to post this...but here's the question...

My rabbit was due to give birth in about 2 or 3 days here. Two days ago(The evening of Sunday, June 11), I went to feed her and noticed something in her cage...it didnt even look like it was close to being developed...and then i went to the other part of her cage and found a poor baby bunny. She didnt have a nest built or anything. It seemed just a little too small, and unfortantly, it didnt make it through the night...but now, she has this huge nest built up and her..umm, i dont even know how to properly say this...tits are very swollen and full with milk. I know this is probably a really stupid question...but is it possible for rabbits to give birth to just a few of her babies too soon and then the rest come later? Cause I like i said...there was one...not even developed one that came..and then another one that looked quite normal and was alive for a while...shouldnt rabbits have at least a few more babies than that? Sorry for going on so long. So yeah, my quesiton is is why has she built her nest now if she's given birth to one of them and is it at all possible some may come later....? Thanks for all your help!!

well...i guess it really doesnt matter one way or another...i will find out...i have schedule an appointment for next week to get her spayed...cause it's more then likely there may be dead kits in her still if only 2 came out, right? Well thanks for the help anyways everyone.

I have no baby experience, but I've seen many instances of rabbitson here having kits days apart invarious stages of health,so don't count her out yet.

I've had live litters born as far as 4 days apart. Most recently, my son had a New Zealand deliver a kit, but didn't have the rest of the litter until the next day.

The glob of tissue you also found was most likely the placenta.

Litter size varies, so the best way to be able to tell if the doe is retaining a kit is to be able to palpate. (Feel the abdomen) Kits at this point feel like large, hard objects in the abdomen.

I think it's safe to say she's not done delivering...

Last month one of my Rex does delivered a single kit and then delivered 7 more the following evening... so it is definately possible.

I've got a feeling she'll deliver them well before her vet appointment.

thanks for your help everyone :) I took her to get checked out by the vet today...she said it didnt feel like there was anything else in there... ): too bad...i was kind of hoping she may still have a few more on the way...

...but the vet also said if they were high enough up she may not of felt them? I'm sorry...I'm still trying to hold on to a sliver of hope she may still have a few more here...what do youall think?

i think its 4 wks..

and they can also breed through cage wire, fences etc.. so make sure theres space between their cages if theyre beside each other

:O what they can acctually do that? Oh my goodness....i never knew that...i had them together a few days after her "abortion" ....it was only for a day...but oh crap! :O geez :S i just dont want her to go through another 'abortion' cause her first two were...i feel so stupid for notknowing that...or why the vet didnt tell me...i told her the situation...bah...well, either way...i hope if she is pregnant again...these ones will make it...
