Please help! I have an adult netherland rabbit that I recently noticed have a hard lump behind her back leg. I dont have a vet in my area that deals with rabbits so I really dont know what to do. Someone told me that it is an abscess and she needs to take antibiotics so I bought her cephalexin. I tried to clean it with warm water then apply betadine. Does anyone know what this is and how to cure this?

I doubt that's an abscess. They just don't usually look like that. That appears to be more of a tumor like mass. Which would mean you would need to find a vet experienced with rabbits to assess it and possibly surgically remove it. But even if it is an abscess it needs further treatment than just antibiotics.

There's also a facebook page that has rabbit vet info called 'Rabbit Awareness Philippines '.

Please do not just give your rabbit the cephalexin. Cephalexin is only safe to give to rabbits by injection. If not given in the proper way, you risk making your rabbit very sick. And if that is a tumor, antibiotics aren't going to help at all

Hello thankyou so much for your response. I am glad that I didnt give her the antibiotics yet coz I didnt even know how to. I will definitely visit the links you've sent. I honestly hoping that I can treat this as soon as possible. And by the way, I checked the lump again this morning and I noticed that there is a pus coming out. I am wondering if I need to drain it. But yes I will check the vet list that you've sent maybe there is a clinic near me.
