Nibbler living up to his name. . . .

Thanks for the replies. I'm hoping it's his age. Bunny proofing would mean we take everything out of the room and that's not feasible. He literally will chew on anything he can get his teeth into. We just can't leave him alone. He loves his exercise when he's out though; he'll circle the two...

Nibbler living up to his name. . . .

Hi all, Nibbler has made it through his first three weeks with us and seems to be doing fine. He has a relatively large hutch with several things to chew on. He has a constant supply of hay and a half a cup of pellets daily. However, when we let him out for his exercise, he'll stop to chew...

    Nibbler stopped using litter box

I had put in some nice fleece mats so he wouldn't slip on the plastic floor. Interestingly, when I took them out, Nibbler went back to using his litter box for the most part. . . . I did put hay over the wood pellets, and that may have helped as well. Thanks for the help!

    Nibbler stopped using litter box

Thanks for the responses. He's about 11 weeks old and has been here about one week. I'm not sure his prior litter, though I doubt it was wood pellets--the store tried to sell me corn cobs, but I read they're not so hot. The box is a small cat box, with a little hay on one end. I've taken...

    Nibbler stopped using litter box

He's been here about a week now, and for the first five days, no problems. Yesterday he stopped using his litter box for his urine. He's never been very good with his poop. . . . I'm using wood pellets and have hay in a section of the box. Yesterday, he used his bed (reed basket with...

    Floor base

Wow, plywood out here (San Fran) was painfully expensive, that's why I went with the coroplast. Just slightly more per sheet. . . .

    Nibbler's New Hutch--Thoughts and Suggestions?

Thanks! My six year old asked me to build her one just like it. Though I think I go to jail if I did. . . .

    Floor base

Though I'm new and just set up my first cage. I think my bun likes his fleece and coroplast. He chewed the plain coroplast, but i've covered it with fleece I got from Joann's Fabrics, on sale right now for about $4.50 a yard in a variety of colors. Plenty of traction and so far no chewing.

    Here's Nibbler

Seems to be loving it. Very gregarious--comes out to play, hops up into laps, cuddled (sort of) with my daughter when she climbed into clean out his cage-he was roaming and actually went back in to be with her. Doesn't like to be picked up yet, though. Figure that will come with time.

    Nibbler's New Hutch--Thoughts and Suggestions?

Appreciate any thoughts as to his new abode. Had to cover the coroplast with fleece, Nibbler was shredding it, ended up putting it outside the cage as well. Not as effective, but still should suffice. By the way, Joann's is having a 50% off fleece sale, about $4.50 a yd right now. Litter...

    Here's Nibbler

Thanks for all the help getting me ready for his arrival. My 6 yr old is over-joyed. She wanted a bunny ever since she saw The Velveteen Rabbit in San Francisco several weeks ago--think Nibbler looks like him (minus the patches of course)?

    Poops--when should I worry?

Thanks for your advice and patience. He went for about 5 hours without a poop, then Katie bar the door--a poop explosion. All seems okay, though he is chewing everything in sight, including a little coroplast, his water bowl, a new hay feeder. Doesn't seem to like the willow ball, the willow...

    Poops--when should I worry?

Again, very new to the bunny world. 10 week old mini lop arrived here Christmas Eve. He has been very active and is still eating pellets, hay, and nibbling on a timothy/alfalfa cube. Cleaned out the cage a couple of hours ago (tons of pills) but he's added no new ones. How often does a rabbit...

    How high of a home?

Thanks again for all the help! Went with a coroplast floor and Nibbler doesn't seem to like walking on it very much. I've added a couple of towels, which he enjoys laying on. Any suggestions for a good covering? We've added one shelf thus far and put hay on it. So far he is uninterested...

Ignorant new grandfather needs help with food!

Thanks for all the help! Santa brought the little guy and our daughter is very, very excited. We all survived Christmas day intact, and Nibbler had his first journey out of the pen this morning. So far, he seems to be a happy bunny. Took the Fiesta Mix back, as they were not actually feeding...

Ignorant new grandfather needs help with food!

A quick additional thought. As I assume the little guy is being fed the Fiesta mix at the store until I pick him up on Monday, is there a transition period when changing diets? Do you slowly transition from one to the other?

Ignorant new grandfather needs help with food!

Hi all, As I posted in the Hutch section, I'm a newbie. My daughter is getting a mini lop for Christmas and I've been reading about food. The pet store where the new addition is coming from, set me home with Kaytee Fiesta Mix. Online, it gets mixed reviews and was crucified in an earlier post...

    How high of a home?

Thanks to everybody for all the help and suggestions. Looks like the corner box is going back. Also, I will be putting a lid on the cage, thanks for the link to Sears, Imbrium. Odd that Kmart and Sears merged and share their website, but only the Kmart version showed up on Google, and was $4...

    How high of a home?

LakeCondo, Thanks also. I'm guess I'm surprised at rabbits being climbers, but that's why I'm trying to learn. At least initially the cage will be 28" high, with a covering over the second story at 14". I hope that works for a little while. The carpet indeed has loops. It was a really nice...

    How high of a home?

Thanks so much for the reply. I'll probably be adding a roof to the nic cage soon then. Odd that Sears doesn't even list them when I search, only Kmart. Must be the new, smarter Google. . . . He's not going to be free range yet--too many cords, toys, stuffed animals, oriental rugs, etc to...
