Long Flight - Crate or Carry-on

@squidpop Glad to hear your dog made it okay. Those kind of travel stories are why I didn't want him to fly in crate. Sorry for the late follow up; this last week has been crazy busy with forms, groceries, etc. Fufu made it just fine. He didn't drink much (or possibly any) water on the...

Long Flight - Crate or Carry-on

Sorry for the long delay, but I felt I should update this in case anyone else is in the same situation. Before anything else could happen, I had to wait for an import permit from the CFIA. This could only happen after the vet had done his wuarentine inspection of the room Fufu will be staying...

Long Flight - Crate or Carry-on

Hopefully it will be a direct flight Toronto. If not, Chicago and then Toronto. I have no idea if I'm allowed to (I should look this up), but I'm going to bring him out of the carry on during the layover. I figure the worst that could happen is one of the airport security guys tells me to put...

Long Flight - Crate or Carry-on

Thank you very much for that advice. Sorry for the delayed reply; I called CFIA that afternoon and they told me they could do a quarantine inspection the next day. I had to get the room ready so this is the first chance I've had to sit down. No word about the airline yet; I'm going to contact...

Long Flight - Crate or Carry-on

Fufu, my rabbit, is currently with my wife in China. We are planning on bringing him to Canada. Here's the problem: the shortest possible flight I can get is 19 hours (with crate) or 20 hours (as carry-on). Which do you think would be less stressful? Most of the guides regarding travel...

    Homemade syringe-feeding mixture?

TopDoll and pani, Thank you for your kind words. Here's my favourite funny baby video of Snowball (she did this a bunch of times before she got too big) https://www.flickr.com/photos/theoriginaltripled/7855240376/in/photostream/ Peace out.

    Homemade syringe-feeding mixture?

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who gave advice on helping Snowball recover. Sadly, after a week long struggle, Snowball passed away on Sunday night. She had just turned two years old. She's survived by her partner Fufu (who is getting lots of love and attention from my wife and I...

    Homemade syringe-feeding mixture?

Update: She started eating green vegetables this morning. I don't want to jinx it, but I think the worst is over. The vet gave us something to help the bacteria in her stomach, but nothing for pain management. I will have to make a trip to the university hospital if she relapses.

    Homemade syringe-feeding mixture?

Sorry for taking so long to reply! This is the third time today I've tried; my computer keeps overheating and shuting down (busted CPU fan). Thanks. We fed her twice now using mashed up pellets. She's not showing any interest in greens, hay, or apple chunks. She is, however, nibbling...

    Homemade syringe-feeding mixture?

From the looks of things she was pooping last night, and her bottom is wet from sitting in her own pee. Not exactly eating per se, but she did nibble on some newspaper at the vet. She just looks away whenever I try to give her water. We've been taking her to the vet every day. The vet is a...

    Homemade syringe-feeding mixture?

Short version: I live in China and my two year old female rabbit Snowball has stopped eating. Many sites recommend syringe feeding if times get tough, but I can't buy any of the products they are suggesting. Some sites are saying that mashed up pellets and apples will work. Is this true...

    Exercise for GI Stasis?

Update: No luck finding out the English name of the medication. But whatever it is it seems to be working. Snowball is starting to eat her greens again, and isn't making the noise too often. I don't want to jinx it, but I hope this is a sign of recovery.

    Exercise for GI Stasis?

My fiancé is taking Snowball back to the vet this morning (I have to go into work). I'll see if she can get the Chinese name of the medicine and I'll run it through a translator. When we first brought her home she showed slight interest in food, but since then she's been ignoring any greens...

    Exercise for GI Stasis?

Back fom the vet. I'm not one hundred percent sure what the verdict is (my girlfriend had to translate) but her temperature was normal and they agreed it was an digestive problem. 1) They took blood and stool samples 2) Gave her a shot and medicine via IV 3) Gave us some medicine for her...

    Exercise for GI Stasis?

It's morning here. She's farting, making the "grunt/squeal" noises, and is refusing all food and water. We're leaving fr the hospital in about 30 minutes. I'll see if they have either of those medications or a feeding syringe. Thank you very much for your advice.

    Exercise for GI Stasis?

Thank you for taking the time to write that out. It answers a few questions I've had for a while. But as for Snowball (my rabbit), I don't think what I heard was a coo. For one thing she is still mostly sedentary. Also, while she nibbles on a bit on apple, she won't touch hay, greens, or...

    Exercise for GI Stasis?

UPDATE: I went to feed her another piece of apple and greens. She had one or two bites, then she mewed. At first I thought she was just passing gas, but then I was certain her mouth was moving. It wasn't even a "mew" really, it almost sounded birdlike. She never makes noises. I can't tell...

    Exercise for GI Stasis?

The grassy area I take them to run around on is next to a student dormitory. It possible that she ran into the bushes and nibbled something that was thrown out a window. No worries about that. I just tried it and she hates the towel-covered water bottle. In any case she's hopping around a...

    Exercise for GI Stasis?

Good to know. I'll massage her every hour or so. The pharmacy's are closed now for the night. I'll check in the morning. She hasn't shown any interest in pellets, but she did wolf down an apple slice (her favourite). I don't want to overdue it on the sugar, but maybe she would eat the...

    Exercise for GI Stasis?

First a disclaimer: I live in a medium sized city in China, so "take to exotic vet specialist" or "Buy medicine X" are probably not viable options. Yesterday my bunny Snowball was hopping around, eating and drinking fine. Today she was slow, sluggish, and refusing fresh greens (completely...
