Need new home for the Dutchies

My two Dutch Bunnies need a new home. Neutered male: black and white, 3 years old. Sweet and allows being held. Spayed female: brown and white, 2 years old, loves to be petted but not held. She is not aggressive. She came from a hoarder. They are strongly bonded and need to stay together. But...

    old hair doesn't shed

I have a female Dutch bunny, spayed since one year. Her old air is loose but doesn't come off unless I pull it (gently!). Is this the result of her spay? I know that in longer haired female dogs this is the case. She looks terrible but is healthy with a good life.

    Permanent Rabbit Run outdoors

MIne is different; it is plastic coated wire, about 2 x 4 inch. I was worried that they would chew through solid plastic.

    Permanent Rabbit Run outdoors

I just finished a project like this but have the wire on top of the soil to prevent it from breaking down in the dirt. Next step is to put bark over it. I got this plastic covered field fence at Home Depot. It is not the tough style but a lighter quality that easily bends over the soil's uneven...

    Which Outdoor Bedding?

My plan is to put a layer of bark and on top of that a layer of straw. What is safe bark? I know not to use pine or cedar.

    Which Outdoor Bedding?

I wasn't very clear. I covered the ground with wire so they can no longer dig themselves out. I think I will try straw after reading about the disadvantages of bark. And cover the top with a tarp when it starts raining again.

    Which Outdoor Bedding?

I finally predator-proofed their outdoor run with wire. What is a good material to put over that? Bark, wood shavings or? I live in the rainy NW. (they also have a comfy hutch, connected to the run)

    Need advice on outdoor hutch

They are two Dutch Bunnies. I was going to change the wire too, never liked for bunnies to have to be on wire.

    Need advice on outdoor hutch

This is my plan: provide the two bunnies with an outdoor hutch that's connected to a large pen so I can move them around to eat grass and other goodies. How about this one? http://www.hayneedle.com/sale/prevuepetrabbithutch.cfm or any better recommendations? I am looking for one that is easy to...

Doesn't want to be picked up

Makes sense. Bunny came from a hoarding case so I am pleased/surprised that she likes to be petted. I will crawl in the hutch with them to try some of the techniques offered here. Good that nobody can see me do that :craziness

Doesn't want to be picked up

Bunny, my shelter bunny, is friendly and tame, loves to be petted. But no way will she let me pick her up. What is the best way to teach them that? They live in a large enclosure and I don't want to have to chase or corner her to make things worse.

    Best Outdoor Location

Next question: how tall should the outdoor run be? Standing height with a man door in it or much lower but how do you get in? I am planning on covering (completely enclosed) it with 1/2 inch hardware cloth. We will start the barn in about a month so I still have all the options. Their outdoor...

    Pairing of 2 male Rabbits

We started with two brothers. As soon a the first one started humping the other, they were neutered at three months of age. Some thought it was too young but we had it done anyways and they were fine ever since. They had a very strong bond until one was killed by a bob cat. That's why we got him...

How much would you pay for a rescue???

It is worth it. If they live a long life it is only a small price to pay if you spread it out over his lifetime. It is weird anyways to pay for a new friend. But the rescues are always broke so I happily pay it. My female bunny was $35.00 in the shelter, incl. the spaying, she is lovely and...

Getting along with other bunny varieties?

Next question: the shelter often has bunnies from hoarders that have lived together (I mean the bunnies). So it would be possible to add two bonded females to my male and female. How does a "harem" like that tend to work out? My male bunny is a very sweet one and he was the less dominant one...

    rabbit wont eat hay

Mine are picky too when it comes to hay but they love their pellets. Is it OK to just give them hay to "force" them to eat it and hopefully start to appreciate it? Is it the way they are raised as babies in a cage on just pellets and not exposed to a variety of foods? The bunnies we had in the...

Getting along with other bunny varieties?

Yes it is very cute. We intro-ed them at the shelter and they immediately cuddled next to each other and she licked his face. (she came from a hoarding case) They are never more then two feet away from each other while they have a huge hutch and outdoor run, ( now wild critter-proof).

Getting along with other bunny varieties?

Blue eyes wrote: We started out with the two brothers. One was sadly injured by a bob cat and died and I got the lonely one a female Dutch bunny. It was love at first sight. From what I read here on this thread I think it is best to leave these two together and not mess up their good bond...

Getting along with other bunny varieties?

We have a bonded pair of Dutch Bunnies: male and female, both fixed. If I were to add another one would it be best to stick with the Dutch Bunnies or can I intro any other type, like a Flemish Giant? I always have liked those. Or do you guys have suggestions on possible matches, type wise. I am...

    Best Outdoor Location

We have the choice of building a large (sheltered from rain)outdoor/indoor enclosure for our two bunnies, and possibly a few more rescues, in our to-be-built barn. Question: on the south or north side? Our summers only have a few really hot days that I can manage cooling them off. The rest of...
