I am curious how often you clean / vaccum/ mop a bunnys room.

I have made a bedroom my bunnys room. She has a day bed and blankets all over that she lays on and plays with. Hay is constant (as we all know living with bunnys) so i try to sweep up once a week.

How often do you wash blankets or anything that the bunnys lays on?
How often do you vacuum for dusk?
do you mop the room if it hard wood floors?
How often do you change the litter?

Any answers would be a great help. Trying to see if im doing it often enough.

:vacuum:

Not sure if I can give you an answer or not. Twigs has free run of our dinning room and living room. So the area gets vacuumed and mopped on a regular bases. And his litter box gets changed daily.

I say just do it when you feel it needs it.

M girls are free range in their own areas with both carpet/mats/hardwood floor. I Vacuum about three times a week...unless penny has a festival with her hay while I'm at work. Wet swiffer the floor once to twice a week. The dusting.....everyday when they shed? Litter/cage clean is once a week full change and spot cleaning when necessary.

So basically a new thing everyday? My girls are messy! :vacuum:

:sweep:

My bun lives in my kitchen but still has a cage. She has a litter box in the cage and in the floor. I change her litter box every other day and sweep all the time.
I have blankets in her cage, she has enough to last two weeks plus a few days without me washing them, but I pile them up to make a load in the washer and wash them about once a week.

But since she's in my kitchen I have to sweep and stuff all the time. haha. No one wants hay in their dinner!

My two are free run in a living room area. They have an NIC condo they go in at night. I scoop their litterbox twice a day, and clean the floor/spot clean everyday. I also do a quick wipe out of their condo every morning. I also keep hay and poops picked up daily. I like things neat.

As far as deep cleaning I vacuum and dust and deep clean their condo once a week. Since I keep up on it throughout the week only once a week deep cleaning is needed.

Julie is free range in the kitchen without a cage. I am constantly sweeping up several times a day. I vacuum once a week and wash all her blankets ,beds and towels once a week but also change them out whenever they look hairy. I clean her litter box twice a day but she has a grate in it so she won't eat the litter if I leave it longer the litter swells up over the grate.

lol well. I guess I am the odd ball with a condo bunny here! I cannot have her free run because of the cat.
Anyway, I dust bust her floors once a day and top up her litter and hay once a day, or if needed, twice a day.
I take out all the sheets and blankets bi-weekly or every three weeks to wash and dry, to sweep out all the hay and fur and to replace her newspapers (which are under the sheets)

I have a cage that both my rabbits live in, and I'd say I clean the litter boxes (3) every 3-4 days? I know that's a long time, and usually it doesn't start to smell/ get too dirty until maybe the 4-5th day. I vacuum their rugs at least once a week - usually they keep it pretty clean to be honest the only time it gets a little dirty is when the sawdust gets stuck to their feet when they hop out of the litter box and it gets on the rugs. I will sweep often as well (nothing huge maybe just literally a 5 minute sweep around the room with a small dust pan and broom - more if they are shedding but they don't really poop when they are out)
I've never had a problem with hay, both my rabbits are huge huge hay eaters, even when I up the pellets they are still little hay monsters, so usually the next day you will not find 1 green strand of stray hay that's not in the litter box (where I put their hay) And they will usually eat a whole flake of hay within 2 weeks!

I must be lazy I guess going by everyone elses responses. Litter box is usually every 4ish days, I change the sheet and level coverings in his condo/vacuum his area every 6-7 days unless he's shedding then it can be more. He's only litter trained for pee and half for poops so if I want a clean cage I have to pick up poop literally every 2 hours and he'd instantly just mark with more. :p

Hmm, I have a pretty big cage and a very large litter box. I change the litter box and thoroughly clean the cage every 3 days which also corresponds with trash pick up day. I'm starting to feel a little inadequate though considering I'm reading what you all have written and realizing I clean the area less, but I just can't see doing it every day or every other day feasible or necessary. Still, I should consider it if in fact I'm being delinquent.

I dust once every week or two at best - I hate dusting!

I don't do bunny laundry - they pee on blankets, so they don't get to have them any more.

I sweep/vaccum when I can no longer stand to look at the amount of stray poop and hay on the floor of their pen (they have my whole living room fenced in for them) or when I find it hard to avoid stepping on poops in the corner where they tend to leave strays... which ends up being every 3-4 days or so.

their litter box doesn't smell even if I leave it for a week, but I typically change it once the poop piles have reached the litter box grid and are starting to rise through it. that varies depending on how high the litter was piled to begin with, but usually happens every 3-4 days so I just do the floors and the box all at once.

lately, I've been letting them out into the kitchen sometimes (with it set up so they can go between there and their pen freely). once they're done in the kitchen and I herd them back into their pen, I promptly sweep up the stray poops on the kitchen/breakfast nook floor (or just pick them up if there's only a few).

basically, they're allowed to make a bit of a mess and said mess is allowed to linger for up to a few days as long as it's contained in their pen because they're in there 24/7 and they're just going to dirty it up again the moment I clean. if they make a mess or leave poops elsewhere in the house, it gets cleaned up either when it's made or as soon as they go back to their pen. they seem to be poop-marking the pen lately because I recently installed new plastic tile flooring in there, though, so my cleaning schedule's a little off right now.

Thanks for all the responses. I appreciate it. Glad to know I'm doing it as often as I am. Below is her room which needs a good cleaning. She's messy with hay likes to play in it/sit in it as she eats it. Tomorrow ill do a full cleaning washing everything, sweeping, vacuum and maybe mop. Boy the room needs it.

Doesn´t look bad to me. I clean their enclosure thoroughly once a week, cleaning cages, brushing down rugs and flooring. I tidy it up nearly every day but don´t vac everything up as the hay gets everywhere again as soon as I´ve finished. They free run in the living room so I´m always sweeping up hay and stray poops, I hate it when it looks untidy. I clean their litter trays every couple of days when I can see they´re getting dirty. Wash their blankets usually when I do the change over on cage day which is usually Sundays.

Oh it's messy trust me the pic doesn't show it well. There's just hay everywhere always it seems. Good thing is she only eats and poops in that room so the rest of my house is clean :bunnyheart:bunnyheart

I HATE cleaning. I clean litter boxes ~1x per week. I sweep/vacume their cages every day-1x per week depending on how messy they are. 1x per week or so I deep clean the cages and litter boxes with vinegar and water. I have carpet so I vacume 1x every 3-4 months (my hair clogs a regular vacume in under 20 minutes so vaccuming even a small area is an all day chore). My rabbits are only allowed to run around my bedroom because of my cat and because the rest of my apt is not bunny proofed. Like I said I HATE cleaning. I only clean when my apt is SOOOOO messy that my HIGH tolerance for mess is out. (I am actually due to clean my whole apt soon, but dreading it so I have been putting it off and now am sick so do not feel like doing it).

Hay is definitely one of those things! I hate hay. It gets everywhere. I've found hay in weird places. It also clogs my shop vac. I try to sweep as much hay a day as I can, but Ellie likes to run and jump in and out of her litter box, to play so she gets hay everywhere!
