I’m a first time rabbit owner and I’ve had my rabbit, Beau, for about a month now and the whole time I’ve had him he seems to have health problems. He’s not even a year old and I’m his fourth owner (I felt so bad for the poor baby and wanted to give him a permanent, loving home), and his previous diets were less than good. When I first got him, he had a runny nose (although not bad and he didn’t sneeze very often) but I’m a worrier, so I took him to a rabbit savvy vet and got him started on antibiotics. The antibiotics didn’t fix his runny nose and I had started to notice he was grinding his teeth and he would drool a lot when eating. My vet then put him under to check his teeth and said there wasn’t really any major spurs, but he did trim a few little ones. He also took some x rays to check for tumors that could cause his runny nose, or if there was anything else. He found nothing (which I was very relieved to find out). My vet said he might just have a very mild case of chronic runny nose, but as long as he was still eating fine and everything else seemed okay, I shouldn’t worry about it. It’s now been a week since Beau’s last vet visit and I’m worried about his messy chin and cheeks. The area is almost constantly damp and I try to clean it every day, but Beau hates it and I can never get it fully dry. I’ve tried using a blow dryer, wiping it with a towel, and trying to brush the matted fur out before it gets bad. I’m at my wits end because I’m worried the constant dampness will cause some serious skin issues, but I can’t seem to fix it. Has anyone else had this issue with their rabbit? If so, what did you do? Should I take Beau to the vet again?
