Help, rabbit gave birth to one rabbit

I’m very worried, my lion head rabbit has given birth to only one baby, and last time she had one baby, then she gave birth a day later to another baby. But of those kits were dead. I’m scared Because I heard somewhere that if the mother gives birth to one baby is harder for it to survive. Please help, the mum right now is cuddling with it baby, and trying to keep it warm. I will palpate her soon and check if I can feel any other babies. Please help, if she only has one baby how do I keep it alive?

You're right, it is harder to keep one kit alive, because they need warmth. If you haven't already, I suggest bringing in the mom and baby, and helping the mom make a nest. Lots of hay, and you can help her pull her fur. It won't her her too much since their fur loosens to make a nest, and its crucial for the babys survival to have lots of fur. If you have a heating pad you can place under the nestbox, that would be great too, just make sure there are no wires for the mom to chew on.

Do palpate to see if she has any more, she needs to get them out. If she seems in distress, take her to the vet.

Are you a breeder? Is this your first time breeding rabbits? Who sired the litter? How many times did the buck fall off?

If the doe made a good nest and pulled fur then the kit should stay warm enough as long as it’s covered. You don’t say if the rabbits are outside or inside. Yes, you could bring them inside (if they’re outside).

Unless you know how to palpate I would not advise trying that. While it can be a little harder to keep a lone kit alive, it also depends on the doe. We had some does who were very diligent to cover their kits when they left the box, and some that were a little sloppy about it.
