No not the mites - we had been feeding them 2nd cut timothy/alfafa hay for the 8 months we had them, they went to the rescue with about a weeks worth left from our winter. The rescue said they had hay for them. We never really saw any good hay or appropriate hay for them - but were continuing to...
September of last year I found this site, after rescuing 4 NewZealand Reds - that were being raised as meat rabbits and approx 10 were let go ( as the person foreclosed on his house and just released them!!
We were able to live capture 4 at the time - we were not aware that he had let all of...
I would vote to leave them outside - they are well protected in those hutches for sure - the main thing is to keep the wind and drafts and keep them dry - if they are healthy and they have a good balanced diet and ample water they will do the job of keeping themselves nice and warm.
I am no...
I have watched the two of them extensively and Freddie does prevent her from feeding. She lays flat, or gives her a nudge or will just jump up on the babies box. The baby can be insistent. But then stops and just lays beside Freddie.
Anyway thought I would post a progress - for non-rabbiters...
It is like over night she has become this round piggly wiggly. I was worried about her being only one kit and having the soda fountain all to her self. She is also eating hay and pellets now too but only 3 weeks old and still needs mothers milk. So hoping that Freddie will control the little...
Sorry don't have a pic - but I found a freezer top rack - the ones that sit on the top and slide back and forth. I tip it sideways and clip the two sides with one of those wood clamps - close peg type They are really strong and hold the rack easily on the Xpen. The buns we have are large...
So here are a couple.
First is Freddie digging a hole the day we were taking them all up to be checked over. I thought they might have mights or fleas and Freddie might even have mange cause of the hair loss on the back - now keeping in mind I know nothing about rabbits. This was the second...
Jus a bit of an update. Re: Willie and Rusty - Willie is the only girl thus far that has not had any unexpected kits. Rusty was the one that had a live born that did not last 24 hours and a still born. She did not a single thing to prepare other than run around the outside pen and gather a bit...
Thanks Rue for the input - will talk to Sanctuary owner to see what she thinks of a going halves. She may want to breed him properly to have one or two litters. I know that she has had other litters with other types of animals, and apparently finds them great homes - but will have a chat first...
The shed they are in is a metal shed with now insulate walls. We have the maternity crate up off the floor and covered with big towels with the heat light shinning through to the nest box - so far she has stayed nice and warm and the temps dipped to about 7c the other day. It has been wet and...
Sierra looks so different from shot to shot - just moving around.
So starting to think we should bring her and Mom into the basement - it is an unfinished basement with not much heat or insulation so should be cool enough.
Just don't want the chance of Sierra jumping out of her box in the...
Look at my little baby Sierra now - just two days and what a difference. She looks like a real bunny now.
Should I be concerned about the dander the bun has - not overly dander but does anyone think I need to give the Mom some oil supplement?
I have read a few things over the past month about Rabbits - okay a lot about rabbits ha ha.
I have been trying to find out more information about single kit litters. Found a few things here and there....such as when you check the bunny to pull the bunny with some the nest fur and show her...
So here is the little sweetie at 8 days now - Still does not look overly big to me - but not really catching her at the point just after feeding. Her belly feels like it has been fed she is just a long lanky thing when stretched out.
She is still quite active when you approach the nest and...
Your buns are so cute hope all goes well with that full litter. My friend and I are freaking just with one bunny - heck we would be a nervous wreck if we had more.
She looked a little haggard this last photo session - yesterday late afternoon. She looked thin and was very staggery unlike the...
