Miss Issabelle is approx. 4-5 months old.

We are thinking a lionhead rex cross?

Probably a purebred Lionhead. They're still "in the making", so they come in a lot of funky shapes, sizes, colors, and manes. But a cross likely wouldn't have the mane. ;)

Some people are crossing the Lions with Holland Lops or Netherland Dwarfsto get the proper type with the rabbit standing up on the show table. Mini Rex aren't a good choice to cross for Lions because of their low head mount.

So, if I was looking to introduce the broken gene, I'd go with Holland Lop or Netherland Dwarf.

Is lionhead recognized as a breed? I didnt know they were so new. (I dont really know much at all, actually...lol)

They've been around for a while and are very popular here in the US, although not accepted as an ARBA breed yet.

Thank you! I didn't realize that lionheads were so big! She's almost as big as Timbit our mini lop and he is about 6-7 lbs. I'd guess her at 4 1/2 lbs. However if people cross them with dwarfs and hollond lops I guess that is where the small size would come from. Our dwarf is much smaller than her! Lol!

The sizes of the Lions I'm now seeing have decreased as the ARBA standard now calls for a smaller size (3 3/4 pound - 3 1/2 pounds is ideal).

How would one establish a pedigree in the lionhead breeds if they are not yet recognized? I am just very curious. I would like to learn how to get in to showing once I learn more. I know none of my current rabbits can be shown as none have pedigrees, however eventually I would like to get a "showable" rabbit and join a club, I have a lot to learn first though!

Thank you all for your replies!

Any rabbit can be pedigreed when lineage is known (parents, grand parents, great grandparents). Even mixed breed rabbits can have pedigrees.

Registration is completely different and requires a rabbit to be "purebred" (3generation pedigree of rabbits that are all the same breed)as well as a good representation of it's breed.

Lionheads are not an ARBA recognized breed, so cannot be ARBA registered, but can be pedigreed.
