Rabbits are fun creatures who will becomebored if there is nothing for them to do. There seems verylittle available in shops in the way of toys to amuse rabbits - Isuppose because their teeth are so sharp it is difficult to make thingsstrong enough. But you can improvise, and here are a fewsuggestions:

Hang a fir cone on string (not nylon) from the hutch ceiling, soit dangles about 5-6 inches off the floor. Rabbits willspend hours trying to 'catch' it in their mouth, or try to destroy itbecause it is in their way.

If you have an old small teddy you don't want anymore tryputting it in the hutch. Make sure there are no dangerousbits - when a rabbit bites through it there may be hidden sharp bits. Whereas bedding is replaced, this toy will always smell ofthe rabbit and be comforting.

A small ball - preferably one that cannot be bitten. Remember that plastic is not a natural part of a rabbit's diet!

The cardboard tube inside a roll of toilet tissue, or kitchenroll is great fun for them to play with. It eventually endsup shredded, but will give amusement while it lasts.

Put a piece of tube or pipe in the run - one wide enough for arabbit to run through, but not longer than your arm - the middle of apipe is a good place to be when someone is trying to catch you!

Old telephone directories. Rabbits love ripping up the paper.

Cut tree branches make a good play place - all thatinvestigating of smells, funny shapes to climb through and maybe even asnack to be found.

Rabbits love to dig. Ours love autumn when thevegetable patch is empty so they can play there. I'veobserved that generally males tend to dig on the surface (looking forfood?) whereas females try to dig long tunnels. I read thatin the wild most male rabbits will die during winter because they stayabove ground level. Female rabbits go into their burrows andavoid the worst of the weather. Lil particularly loves todig and sometimes she is hardly recognisable because she is covered inmud. Great fun!

Try putting hay in the cardboard tube- they loveit. I restuffed Mocha's this morning and she was more interested in itthan in her cilantro!

Also, cardboard boxes with 2 bunny sized holes cut in them are great.Mocha loves boxes. And don't forget about cat toys with bells in them, plastic baby keys, pieces of paper, and books, especially the one youare reading at the moment.:p She knows she's not supposed to eat thosebut she tries every time!
