Okay so i wanted to know a little more information on this question i have. Has anyone done it? How dangerous is it? Etc.

One of my does lost her litter a few days ago and she has since been withdrawn, she rebuilt a nest and keeps checking it for kits. She wont leave her hutch and is in all honesty looking really sad.
One of my other does is due kits soon and i was wondering what peoples opinions are on allowing one of the kits to be raised by my doe who lost hers. She has milk supply.
I dont want to do it unless it is safe to do and would benefit my doe and the kit would be safe.
Ive heard of it being done with other animals but i dont know about it being done with rabbits?

Could she take it on as her own?
Would she still have her milk supply in a few weeks? Etc.

I need to hear all the advice as i want to fully informed before i consider this x.

Id like to point out that my doe who has lost her kits is not going to be rebred.

How big is the gap between her losing her kits and the other doe giving birth to kits? This will make it a lot easier to determine whether it is OK to transfer a couple of babies, as otherwise she might not look after them. That is very heart-breaking to hear that she lost her babies :(

OMGOSH that is soooooo exciting!!!! I literally felt a bubble of happiness burst within me!:) I never knew this could happen, but my sister who is a Flemish Giant breeder had this happen once - the mum miscarried one and then a few days later gave birth to 12 healthy buns. It must be very rare, but you sure must have been over-the-top surprised when you saw your bun with that many kits! they look absolutely stunning, very healthy. Enjoy!

how many did she miscarry? 9 kits is already a pretty big litter!

She lost 3 only 2 days ago. I thought that was it and everything. But no. She then has 9 kits.
Im wondering if she got pregnant in both horns? No idea though. She has confused me greatly xx

I wont lie though i was so happy and excited i started jumping up and down and squealing lmao xx

very happy for your doe! I hope everybody is doing real well. I didn't know they may have such huge litters! (mine had 4 babies only once). now the mom needs to eat very well to have lots of milk!

Day 4
Kit A - cream with no marking yet.
Kit B - lilac otter
Kit C - harlequin with most markings
Kit D - harlequin with no facial markings
Kit E - chocolate otter
Kit F - chocolate otter (runt)
Kit G - blue otter slightly lighter than kit H
Kit H - blue otter
Kit I - harlequin with distictive dot on headIMG_20180618_102140_375.jpg

Why are you breeding otter into your harlequin lines?

Im not. Neither parent had harlequin in their lines last 3 generations.

My doe has had harlequins in her first litter but that came from the harlequin buck she accidently mated with. Not from her.

My favourite are the brown and blue otters!!!!!!!!!! they look SOOOOOOO adorable! beautiful mix of colors

So the harlequin continues to b e recessive in the lines

They were bred for pets and their parents characteristics not for anything else. I honeslty couldnt care less that harlequins were born. They were the first to get reserved...

Just adding a reply to tell you that it was indeed she had kits in both horns this is why you basically had 2 litters a lot of the time unfortunately when a doe does catch on both sides the 1st kits born a lot of times do not survive it's sad but this time at least there is a happy ending you have a large live healthy litter. I'm just wondering how many times did you put her with your buck and was it the same buck this can happen as well she could have 2 different sires for each litter aa well I normally put my does with a buck for breeding and remove her when they tire or loss interest for the moment lol then I return the doe about an hour or 2 max. to the buck for about 20 mins and then not again some breeders do try them the next day or 2 after this is where you may run into 2 litters different birthdates etc as this makes a difference in the kits 2 days can be the reason some die they are early etc so this is why I choose not to play with the dates by breeding on more than 1 day per doe the gestation period is so short already 2 days can be life altering.
So glad you got healthy babies after all

Bunnies have 2 uterus' so they can get pregnant twice. I had my male and female together for a few days. So she had babies (6) on the 6th... I estimated the 7th. But i keep checking to make sure that's it.
