Hi all,
I don't come here often and I feel guilty about that. Like a kid who only calls home when s/he needs something!! :rollseyes Sorry. Anyway, I have 9 bunnies - 3 boys and 6 girls. I just got the third boy neutered today but I also got two of my girls spayed and it's a first for me. My poor Blue Belle! She walks with her rear up and she doesn't hop...she WALKS. I know she and Annabelle must be sore but I just wanted to make sure this is normal right after surgery. This vet sends them home hours after surgery. The little boy, Gustavito, is acting like it's no big deal for the most part. I have them separated from the rest so I can keep an eye on their poo and eating habits. Annabelle doesn't want to eat or drink! Blue Belle ate a little. Gustavito ate and drank a lot. I have water, pellets, hay and all their favorite greens + carrots in there for them. Is there anything else I should do? When should I start to worry if Annabelle doesn't start eating/drinking and what can I do if she doesn't? Any other advise from you wise sages? Thank you!!!!!

Did your vet give you any pain meds for them? They will definitely be in pain, but pain meds can help a lot.

Not eating or drinking right away is very normal - just keep an eye on her. If she isn't eating in 24 hours, I would call your vet and administer critical care. My girl is very fussy about pain and won't eat for 3 days afterwards, so we keep her tummy moving with critical care until she comes around.

Thanks, Elrohwen! I called the vet this a.m. and they told me to give her critical care which I have been doing with pretty good success. They did not give me pain meds and I'm so mad I didn't think to ask. This vet is an hour away and suggested I call one near to my house which I did but they wouldn't give me any because I've never taken her there! I'm hopeful she'll improve with time and TLC.

Girls take a lot longer to recover than boys. I got my doe spayed in April and it was about a week before she was fully recovered and back to causing mischief. She also get sent home the afternoon of her surgery and didn't eat until 3am in the morning and only did some small poos the next day.

My buck on the other hand was completly back to normal the day of his surgery, eating, drinking and pooing properly!

Did you try offering a bowl of water as well as a bottle (if you use one)? My doe would only drink from the bowl the first couple of days.

I hope they are feeling a little better now!

Hi Sarah,
Thanks for the feedback. Yes, things are pretty normal now. My buns drink from a bowl anyway but she wouldn't drink anything the first couple of days so I had to syringe feed her water and food. I'll know what to expect next time!!!
