We are getting our two rabbits spayed on Friday and have been advised by the vet that because it's so cold it's important to keep them inside fr a night or two.

They're outside usually so we have no real inside stuff set up. What's the best thing to do for them? Move their hutch inside for a day or two and Hoover up the mess?

Or we have some steel mesh play pens we are using to make them a large outside run, maybe one of those with some tarpaulin as a floor covered in an old duvet cover maybe?

Or anything else you can suggest?

Your vet is correct, rabbit's have trouble regulating their temperature after anesthetic so can get too cold, but also don't put them in a room that will be too warm. Your set up depends on a few things, what sort of flooring you have, whether they use a litter tray or not, etc etc.

Any hard flooring like tiles/floorboards you're probably fine to just put them on with maybe a fleece blanket for a soft spot to lie on, if you've got carpet, a tarpaulin or plastic drop sheet will do the trick, just make sure it's pulled tight so they can't chew on the plastic, otherwise a fleece blanket on top of the plastic will work. An exercise pen type set-up would work well providing they're not inclined to jump over the fence panels (depending how tall they are).

Thanks. It's a metre high so they'll be fine :). Thanks for your help again. Would one night be ok?

We are making a new run and hutch enclosure for them for afterwards. Would they be best to go in there in the morning or the afternoon to give them some more time inside?

I don't think it matters when you put them back out as long as there's no temperature shock (eg. going from a really warm house to cold night air or visa versa) :)
