I am getting to go over to America, have neverbeen before or many other places for that matter. Even better its freefor a week. I am going to Santa Monica for 3 days and Las Vegas for 2in September. I'm really excited.

If anyone lives in these places or knows them well can you give me somepointers on what i should do as i only have a day and a half that isplanned for me and the rest of the time its do as you please so anygood restraunts or shoe shops!! would be really appreciated.

Oh how cool!:bunnydance: I'd love to travelsomeday, I've only been out of Ireland a few times, butI havebig plans for the future.:D

My boyfriend and I just came back from Las Vegas a few weeks ago.

One think I highly recommend if you're going to Las Vegas is to take atrip to the Grand Canyon/Hoover Dam, although it is a long bus ride, but it's definately a sight to see! It's a completely differentexperience than looking at it in photographs.

The Fountains at Bellagio, a very nice casino, are fantastic to watch(and free!) and go off quite often. We also chcked out the TigerExhibit in the MGM (the closest you'll ever get to a tiger, about 5inches of glass), and the birds at the Flamingo. TheVenitican (spelt wrong, I think!) has really cool interior, just likeItaly, complete with gondales you can ride on. A really great hotel inthe Wynn and it also has a nice, clean and mostly smoke-free, casino,as well as a really helpful staff. Hope that helps alittle![size="-1"]

Vegas Rocks! I love had my honey moon there.Lots of free shows outside the hotels. I saw the white tiger take adump in the water. It was funny.

Thanks guys. I'm really lucky as i am going toDermalogicas head office and flag ship store in santa monica. They haveselected some brittish salons to go its kind of a thanks ithink. It will be really cool to see where its all done andmeet the woman who thought of it. now thats a successful woman!!

Thanks for the vegas ideas thats our down time before we come home. I can't believe i'm actually getting to go.

You will get to do all sorts Michaela. I have only been abroad twicebefore this once to Majorca and Mauritious on my honeymoon mainlybecause with setting up a business i didn't feel like i had the time ormoney, this trip is a bonus but 1 day i will get to see the places ireally want to go to and you will too

Great shopping alongSanta Monica's Third StreetPromenade.

I was going to highly recommend stopping at the Radisson HuntleyHotel's 18th floor bar/restaurant, Toppers, for their free buffetduring Happy Hour and hang around for the sunset, the view isspectacular, but I went to look up the exact address, and they justchanged it to a high(ish)-end restaurant called thePenthouse. :(

If you've got the budget, it's still worth a trip just to relax andlook out over the ocean (you can see clear up to Malibu, and Hollywoodon a clear day). Best to get there well before sunset, you'llprobably need reservations but they apparently can make you wait awhile to be seated, reservations or not.

If you're on a budget, just go there early in the week and order adrink and and an appetizer. :) (It's on2nd street, close to the Promenade).

Have fun!

sas :)

Oh, I'm sure you're going to love both places:). I only visited Santa Monica for the day (from downtown LA), but itwas just such a chilled out place (great Henna tattoos on the pier too;)).

And Vegas is just ... well ... just amazing. Hubby and I got married(the first time) at The Little White Chapel while we were on a coachtour. When I went a few years later, I won $500 on the slot machines atThe Venetian, so I've GOT to love it :D;).
And you really don't need to spend a cent - so many of the hotels havefree things going on (Fremont Street has a great light display, andTreasure Island a wonderful shipwreck). And the 'All U Can Eat Buffets'- wow!

Michaela, don't worry - you WILL get to travel around :)

Very cool. I live in LA so I've definately been to Santa Monica and I've been to vegas a number of times.

In Santa Monica you definately want to check out 3rd street.I love it myself. There's a good wolfgang puck there inaddition to a ton of other restaurants and shopping.

The Santa Monica pier is also worthwhile. In September itshould still be good beach weather so you can go to thebeach. The pier has rides on it as well. Ride theferris wheel. There's a bubba gump shrimp restaurant on thepier that's good.

In Las Vegas, I'm going to assume you'll stay on the strip.Obviously I don't gamble... you might want to see a showwhile you're there. The hotels are great to walk around in,great shopping too. You should go up to the top of the eiffeltower replica in the Paris hotel. It's great to go and watchthe bellagio fountain from there at night. Having just donethe actual eiffel tower a few days ago, I can say the vegas one is justas good, but with a smaller crowd.

If you like steak, it's a bit pricy, but I had the best steak of mylife in the New York New York hotel at Gallagher's Steakhouse.

Honestly, I have never stayed in a hotel in LA,for obvious reasons... I googled it and it seems like a nicehotel. I'm sure you'll have a great time.
